Topic: MATCH THREAD ~ MORTON V DAFC

I know the goal came from one, eventually, but it’s remarkable how rigidly we’re sticking to short corners this afternoon when we’re clearly terrible at them. We’ve ended up under pressure more often than we’ve been on the attack from them. I get that it’s windy, but come on…

What a grim watch this is. Morton look more up for it than us from what I have seen. Nothing up front and a tepid midfield!

Agree with the short corners criticism. It’s the same for all our set pieces. Short corner played quickly to our player but Morton player intercepts and we foul and that’s the set piece over! Players shouldn’t have bothered running the length of the pitch for that!! 🤨

Keep waiting for the day when we become a team that is a level above most of the team in the league but we don’t look any better than Morton. Can see our away form being dire this year!!

Really poor performance in general. For all our possession, we created very little and showed no real quality going forward. And against a poor team who never really threatened, the occasional long throw aside. But a win is a win and that’s what matters going into an international break.

Lobban man of the match by some distance.

I only saw about the last half hour but we were pretty poor. You wouldn`t know which side was bottom of the league.

Can`t help feel for the players and resources we have at our disposal, we should be much more effective than we are.

Livi beat Morton with ease a week or two ago and scored 4 in the process. We struggle to score 1. We are anything but cohesive and pleasing on the eye.

Livi couldn`t beat ICT at home today and we`re above them. That`s football for you.

We knock the ball about with no urgency like we are 3 up and killing the game. No service for the strikers so they will struggle. Kane should have buried his chance at the end. Cracking strike to take the 3 points and get back up the road.

Important 3 points. Pitch looked difficult to play on, cutting up and very uneven.

Build up play remains slow and predictable most of the time, would like to see more direct play and shooting tbh.

Win when you don’t play well, is usually quoted when teams win leagues.

We were in control for almost the whole match.

More clear cut chances would have been good, but an away win against anyone in this division is a good result. Lobban`s goal was a cracker. Kane should have made it 2-0 towards the end.

Up to fourth. Level with Thistle (I think the team that finishes above Thistle will be top). Ahead of Livingston. Two points behind the Rovers (and we`re way better than them).

A good day`s work. Hopefully the players away on international duty are enthused by their time away and come back fit, healthy and up for the league.

Thistle and Arbroath won with late/very late goals at Cappielow. Livi were clinical but 4-1 flattered them a bit.

Any away win is good at this point. We were on a bit of a hiding to nothing today and came through. Also, Ox`s 4th clean sheet in 6 games so far. There are positive signs at one end of the pitch.

Agreed that we are way too slow with the ball. Build up play is at walking pace!

However, an ok overall performance and a very good result.

Hope the international break doesn’t kill our momentum.

I doubt if there is a more antiquated "stadium" in the whole of the UK. Two square feet per seat and 2 inches of leg room. Crushed in like sardines in a tin. But we really were not as bad as being suggested here. Our midfield and defence were way better than theirs. Over the pitch we were faster and sharper. Adams has his strengths but, so far, it looks like an eye for goal is not one of them. His hold up play and distribution were often very good and he is very mobile at pressing their defence. Lobban was our best player and his goal topped off an excellent display. We outplayed Morton throughout and deserved to win. Three points on a day that we really needed them is a great return and an excellent platform for the weeks ahead.

A win with a poor performance is something I’ll never take for granted. Although, our strikers really need to start earning their keep.

This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it.
