It`s always amusing seeing fans passing judgement on players who, as evidenced by their record of achievement over a long period of time, have a completely different mindset from the average punter. No one will know better than Andy Murray what is a realistic target in his last few years competing at the top level. I feel for Emma Raducanu who will soon take over the mantle of expectation the British media and fans love to put on promising sports people. Andy Murray had the resilience and character to deal with it; I hope she does too. Reply |

23. Author: parathletic Date: Thu 20th Jan 2022. 11:45 Murray quoted as saying he won`t be back to Australian Open next year if he has many more performances like that-I could see this being his last year sadly. Reply |
24. Author: wee eck Date: Thu 20th Jan 2022. 14:09 I didn`t see that but I saw a quote that he felt OK physically before today`s match so it doesn`t seem defeat can be put down to tiredness. Reply |

26. Author: Buspasspar Date: Thu 20th Jan 2022. 18:04 The body has to give sometime and several 3+ hours court battles must take its toll over the years .. Its not like a team game where you can maybe hide for a wee bit to try and recover .. Should he decide to retire I wish him all the best and thank him for providing us with great pride while watching him We are forever shaped by the Children we once were Reply |
27. Author: DA-go Par Adonis Date: Thu 20th Jan 2022. 18:06 The fact that Federer, Nadal and Djokovic have 60 grand slams between them isn`t a damning indictment of any batch of `new` players. It is because they`re the 3 best players of all time, they`ve all been on the scene at roughly the same time and, until recently, have managed to keep free from injury for their entire careers. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I love it when we go sell Kevin Nisbet, He's gonna pay for everyone this season. 29. Author: wee eck Date: Thu 19th Jan 2023. 17:41 I thought I`d resurrect this thread from a year ago after Andy`s two unbelievable wins in this year`s Australian Open. It`s absolute madness that players are asked to play until 4 am and the winner is expected to play again in less than 48 hours. Goodness knows what condition Andy will be in on Saturday. Reply |
30. Author: wetherby Date: Thu 19th Jan 2023. 18:45 An incredible performance especially given his exertions on Tuesday and to come back from two sets down speaks so much about his mental strength. He well have the greatest "will to win " , guts and determination of any sporstman. Reply |

33. Author: desparado Date: Thu 19th Jan 2023. 23:07 Just watched his game on you tube. Incredible comeback. Some of his returns in one particular game were almost unbelievable. Crazy he is playing again so soon after that marathon. What an opportunity we missed in 2014. Reply |

36. Author: wee eck Date: Sat 21st Jan 2023. 13:03 In a way he was the victim of his own reputation. The organisers obviously want to feature a big name in the last match of the day but, if it`s a long one, the winner is inevitably scheduled for a late start in the next round to help his recovery. When they`re finishing at 4 am though it must mess with sleep patterns and the biological clock. Reply |
37. Author: wee eck Date: Fri 24th Feb 2023. 17:43 Now he`s in the final of the Qatar Open. As usual Andy did it the hard way, winning the first set 6-0, losing the second then winning the third set on a tie break after saving five match points. Reply |
