62. Author: wee eck Date: Sat 8th Jul 2023. 10:56 Elite athletes have a totally different mentality from lesser mortals. That`s a big part of what sets them apart. It`s amusing hearing others telling him when he should retire. Reply |

64. Author: The One Who Knocks Date: Sat 8th Jul 2023. 15:05 I think it`s a tremendous indicator of his character that he is willing to carry on competing even though it`s very unlikely he will ever go deep into a Slam again. When he was rising to the top of the game there would have been many a hardened warrior veteran that would have been dispatched by a fitter, better, Murray. Now it`s went full circle, all glory is fleeting and he is going to pay his dues back to the game. Kind of inspiring really. And although my eyes were open They just might as well be closed Reply |

Author: Buspasspar Date: Sat 8th Jul 2023. 17:42 I don`t think us lesser mortals will ever fully understand the dedication .. practice ..wear and tear on the body .. mental strength .. injury and pain barrier that these top tennis players go through .. or indeed any top athlete .. Andy always seemed to make it difficult .. No doubting his ability or mental approach but over the years he has had some very long hard slogs and injury`s .. Credit to him .. I hope he keeps going .. his body will tell him Post Edited (Sat 08 Jul 17:48) Reply |

67. Author: P Date: Sat 8th Jul 2023. 21:31 Maybe Murray will keep playing because he likes playing tennis. He’s fortunate to have made a fortune doing something he loves but it remains a game which is enjoyable for people who are passionate about it so why retire? Reply |
68. Author: GG Riva Date: Mon 10th Jul 2023. 05:42 Buspasspar, Sat 8 Jul 17:42 Great post, BPP, but I can`t agree with your last sentence. If he keeps going, he could end up almost a cripple. He`s had an excellent career, has nothing to prove to anyone and doesn`t need the money. For these reasons, I think he should retire from top level tennis. He could still have the odd knockabout if he gets withdrawal symptoms. 🙂 ![]() Not your average Sunday League player. Reply |
69. Author: wee eck Date: Mon 10th Jul 2023. 08:26 I think it`s the competition against top-level opponents that he craves so a knock-about with friends or family isn`t going to satisfy that but as he gets older the harder it will be to emulate the standards of the best players. I hope he has been taking medical advice on the long-term effects of continuing to play at the highest level. Reply |

If he doesn`t seek medical advice, in case he hears something he doesn`t want to hear, that would be foolish in the extreme. ![]() Not your average Sunday League player. Reply |
71. Author: wee eck Date: Sun 28th Jul 2024. 20:49 Who thought we`d be re-opening this thread a year after the last post? Dan Evans is an excellent partner for Andy as he has that same never-say-die attitude and has had to overcome a few setbacks in his career. The two tie-breaks tonight were unbelievable. Reply |
