The process is reasonably straightforward if you have the right documentation, no criminal record and a good reason to apply. Without having those things you are less likely to get in through legal routes. It would seem reasonable to assume that a proportion would try and get in through illegal means if they didn`t meet the criteria wouldn`t it? (Not all, and not to the extent that some politicians would suggest). Of course, leaving a disorganised and war-torn place or one run by a despotic regime probably means that you might not have a passport to hand.... The BBC podcast on Denmark I think gives a view of the way we`re heading. Reply |

Author: NMCmassive Date: Sat 8th Nov 2025. 22:28 The One Who Knocks, Sat 8 Nov 20:08 The bar is set so low that the only ones not getting in either have absolutely no skill set to contribute or have pretty serious criminal records. All they need to do to gain legal entry is be a care worker and they’ll be fast tracked in. Thats how the numbers are as high as they are (which is about the population of Leicester each year) Do you honestly believe it’s difficult to get paperwork from Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, Eritrea or Vietnam saying you are a care worker even if you aren’t? There’s a reason why the boat full of engineers and doctors is a meme… COYP Reply |
| 23. Author: jake89 Date: Sat 8th Nov 2025. 22:57 What are you on about? People seeking asylum can`t work here. Those coming here legally with work visas and entering into social care or the NHS are vetted. Can you imagine the scandal if the council or a private care provider were hiring some randoms to deliver care?! Reply |

| 26. Author: NMCmassive Date: Sun 9th Nov 2025. 19:03 LochgellyAlbert, Sun 9 Nov 10:38 No the que isn’t too long. It’s only too long for those that don’t qualify. If you qualify you can be here in months. 1 million a year enter legally. That the population inside Glasgow City Council x 1.6ish. 1 and a half Glasgow’s added last year. COYP Reply |

| 28. Author: jake89 Date: Sun 9th Nov 2025. 20:25 NMCmassive, Sun 9 Nov 19:03 Glasgow Council population is closer to 0.6 than 1.6. I think you`re confusing the council with Greater Glasgow and Clyde health board, which covers most of West central Scotland. Reply |
| 29. Author: The One Who Knocks Date: Sun 9th Nov 2025. 21:00 Jake, he said population x 1.6 not that Glasgow has a population of 1.6 million. Either way the population of Glasgow is by the by. Half of that one million added a year is from students and half of that number is students from India or China. You want trade deals with those countries then allowing them access to our universities is part of the deal. Probably just as well as they pay a hefty wedge for those places. That said adding seven hundred thousand per year is unsustainable. The argument is that we need young workers to staff care homes and the NHS. However how many public sector workers does it take to administer and care for the needs of seven hundred thousand? That`s twice the population of Fife and how many NHS workers, bin men, police officers, social workers, etc are employed within Fife? And although my eyes were open They just might as well be closed Reply |
| 30. Author: NMCmassive Date: Sun 9th Nov 2025. 22:47 LochgellyAlbert, Sun 9 Nov 19:24 The ones who don’t take the legal route are here illegally. They shouldn’t be here longer than they have to be but because of whatever political grandstanding we’ve castrated ourselves. Will there be some asylum seekers? Yes but whatever mucking around we’re doing now isn’t working for anybody. The native UK population or asylum seekers. The only ones benefiting are the boat loads (pardon the pun) of illegal migrants and the political class which brings me back to my main point. We’re financially Fk’d. We’ve been kicking the can down the road for years borrowing on top of borrowing. We half arsed austerity and didn’t make the necessary cuts to reverse the trend that has only accelerated since. Public sector net debt is £2.7trillion. That’s 98% of annual GDP. In the short term, increasing a population size will increase GDP which will improve the debt to GDP ratio and should improve a nation’s borrowing power. I think that is what they’ve been doing. A short term fix for a long term problem. Kick the can down the road the next lot can deal with it. I’m still not totally finished reading up on it but I’m pretty certain that’s what’s happening. Take the genuine asylum seekers out of the equation. They’re not the problem. Empty Turkish barbers, takeaways and hotels being paid exorbitant amounts of cash to house people to sit around and do nothing until they are deported, commit crime or deliver fast food are all part of the same problem and it’s the government’s making (Labour and conservatives.) Up in Aberfeldy there was a gorgeous looking Ukrainian lady that was offering certain "services " she was very popular in the town!🙈 Have the UK government not been offered a clearing centre on French soil numerous times? Because of Brexit we can`t be seen to be cooperating with any European country!😡 Reply |
