Interesting!

No being funny but when I get a fish supper I like brown sauce on my chips but just salt and vinegar on my fish

It`s very interesting, I do sometimes do it that way too, I`ll have the sauce on my chips, and eat at least half the fish with no sauce, then have some chippy brown sauce on the rest. I like to taste the quality of the fish a bit first, before adding the sauce.
The point made further down by Dave about homemade is true too. If I get a bit haddock from the fish van, and bread it and fry it, I`m looking for some Heinz Tomato Ketchup with that (maybe a few pickled onions too). Same with the point made about rolls on sausage, but it the other way round for me - if it`s square sausage I`m having red sauce on it.

It`s a fascinating subject, make no mistake, perhaps worthy of a thread (or even a forum) of it`s own

With a fish supper, it has to be red sauce on the fish and salt, pepper and lashings of vinegar on the chips. In saying that, I do sometimes have broon sauce on the chips.

I think salt and sauce on a fish supper from the chippy is an East coast thing .. Salt and vinegar was a west coast preference .. going back a lot of years mind when a fish supper was 1/6p true

Fish supper is a treat nowadays at £10+ but salt and vinegar all over and red sauce on fish/brown sauce on the chips plus 2 pickled eggs to mop up all the left over sauce.
On the odd occasion I will get a wee tub of mayonnaise and dip the chips with broon sauce into that..
On a better note that thick warburtons bread got dumped and the medium size got used to make a cheese with raw onion sandwich, bit of salad cream and a layer of prawn cocktail crisps..honestly try it before you say anything. An apprentice came in with this and I was wary about it BUT it’s very good!
Any other combos of food that is decent? I’ll need this in the padded cell or the bunker when the nukes strike😅

Fish n chips is lemon 🍋 squeezed on the fish and salt and vinegar on the chips.

Corned beef is a no brainer. Brown sauce all the way.

But, then again I really enjoy mince and tatties with beans!

Salt and sauce (brown) on everything here.

Sausage supper with curry sauce is cracking. Think it’s a bit of a Glasgow thing tbh

I think the English go with gravy on everything.

A lot of good chip shops in Fife anyway, tend to use Gold Star Brown Sauce, but it`s not actually vinegar, it`s Gold Star Condiment. Most of them mix some Condiment into the brown sauce. I only know this because I asked, and I do the same at home
