Topic: Police investigation into the SNP

It seems to be records that are missing rather than income but I`d like to see the full audit report. Interesting that they also refer to 2021 although the previous auditors didn`t mention a problem.

I was expecting some sort of qualification if the police investigation had not concluded by the time the accounts had to be signed off as this must give rise to uncertainty but there appears to be no mention of it.

Anything in this blog of interest to you?
Wondering if the politicians are going to have a quiet summer ☀️ recess.

Any chance of getting an opinion from your CA friend on the article below...I`m illiterate when it comes to graphs and accounts

You`ll be relieved it looks like the SNP will be able to file their accounts in time with the Electoral Commission. 🙁

Just back from lunch with an old pal, like me a retired CA. I asked him what he made of the police investigation into the finances of the SNP. Without hesitation or prompting from me he said he found it difficult to reconcile it with the fact that the auditors had signed off the accounts"

Surely two retired CAs must recognise that signed off accounts isn`t a cast iron guarantee of anything?

You must be aware of the odd accounting scandal that involve audited accounts? Patisserie Valerie, Carillion, Enron?

He said he found it difficult to reconcile the investigation with the fact the auditors had signed off the accounts without qualification. Like me he saw it as an anomaly. He wasn`t taking sides.

I doubt the SNP accounts give rise to the sort of issues that might arise in companies like Enron and Carillion though. I`m not aware of the Patisserie Valerie case.

Grant Thornton were the auditors of PV for 12 years and were fined 2.3m for incompetence after a 94m black hole was found in the accounts.

I doubt there`s similar issues with the SNP accounts as well but the point stands that it`s entirely possible despite the signed off audit.

The first paragraph you wrote at the very beginning of this listing suggests you had already taken sides...

I just like to hear both sides of an argument, Tenruh. There`s a tendency on here, and also on the Football Forum, for posters to jump to conclusions without knowing the full facts. It`s sometimes difficult to get them though, especially if the media aren`t even-handed in their coverage.

Details emerging of conversation between Dougie Chapman and Peter Murrell when both were party officials…

Dougie: “ Peter, I’m hearing rumours about the ring fenced Indy fund, what’s going on?”

Peter: “ Och Dougie, dinnae worry there’s nothing to see there, nothing in it at all”

A very truthful answer!

I see a report hidden away on the BBC website that the SNP`s 2022 accounts have been filed on time with the Electoral Commission.

Hidden away? It’s literally on the front tab of the BBC Scotland page.
