Well this is a bit worrying, police have announced that they will be making a statement about the death of the former MP, and their related investigations.

Murdered. Police seeking a white male on connection and the investigation is moving swiftly. Sounds like they`ll be catching the scum bag shortly that seemingly battered a 78 year-old woman to death.

I just assumed it was natural causes given her age, absolutely terrible news this.

Police stating there is "no information to believe that that is a politically motivated crime". That seems like a bit of a holding statement, I would be surprised if there is no connection.

I don`t need to agree with a politician to like them, I liked Ann Widdecombe.

BP, an elderly woman, living alone in a rural location. Burglary gone wrong would be me first hunch as to what had happened.

It may well turn out to be the case that is it something along the lines you describe, perhaps even something along the lines of being a burglary because she was a "rich politician" without being politically motivated.

I`m not suggesting, nor indeed think you are suggesting "not politically motivated" makes this any less atrocious.

It’s far too early to tell what the motive is but Jesus it’s absolutely terrible.

I really feel for her family and friends. She didn’t deserve that.




I do think some of the responses to her death are despicable. Nonce adjacent (apparently) Tatchel wrote something he’s had to retract and apologise for and Adam Boulton looks like a prick after his appearance on Sky.

“You can tell a lot about a person by how they react when someone dies.” proves true every time.

Despite her being a Tory, and then, even worse, Reform, I actually quite liked her. She always seemed like a fairly normal, likeable person. It`s a real tragic event. My first thought was it`s probably a robbery gone wrong as well. Probably some poor kid that`s been badly affected by years of Tory austerity.

There are some politicians though, that I think may have a reckoning coming soon, the UK is simmering, they have sown the seeds of hatred, along racial lines, if people get smart and work out who the true enemy is, then there may be a lot more to come

It’s been an awful piece of news for such a lovely lady.

I live less than a mile away. Village crawling with reporters and an obvious high police presence.
It`s a very low crime area so something like this is unprescedented in the 20 years I`ve been here.

Despite disagreeing with nearly 90% of her views (fox hunting a very notable exception), she was without question a woman of conviction who truly believed in what she spoke.
There is nothing wrong with that and she was open for debate and not just handing out soundbites for popularity.
Whatever happened, it’s a nasty way to go.

The burglary gone wrong theory might not hold up much longer as it seems that the suspect in custody drove 270 miles from his home to her house.

There have been reports of folk driving elsewhere in the UK to Fife to commit burglaries.

I`d let the police do their work.....I`m sure they`ll get to the truth.
