The point being that it isn`t some sort of conspiracy by the police to hide the true motive.

I certainly hope not.

It`s maybe due to "unconscious bias" they probably jump to "burglary gone wrong" because it was their preferred outcome.

While I think a more neutral position would have been for Ann Widdicombe to be robbed, let alone killed and there be no possible political motive although possible, highly improbable.

Imagine being that ingrained in a narrative that you think the police have preferred outcomes to major crimes 🤦🏻‍♂️

Saying they were investigating and keeping an open mind seemed like far the most sensible approach. In the early stages of an investigation it`s ok not to understand the facts.

Of course, saying they thought it wasn`t political or terror related could simply have been an approach to get someone to communicate online and implicate themselves.

It`ll come out in due course. It seems like they have caught the current suspects quickly given the geography involved.

The court artist`s impression is wildly different to the guy`s photo, this is another Jill Dando.

Picture in the paper

Court artist picture

It did remind me of PC Jock McCulloch`s effort.

I believe the second image is fake. I`ve seen the original and it looks a lot closer to the real life image, while still not really looking like him.

I thought the media were not allowed to publish images of those accused of murder before or during their trial?

I think the officers of Leven Division are exempt.

It appears to be being reported that there were two artists in the court that day (which sounds weird).

And the one named on the original AP article picture seems legit.

Any idea why the mix up?

The court impression is not taken in court. It’s done from memory and witness accounts, and they’re drawn outside of court, so the likeness is never going to be the same.

Also the photograph of the suspect is approximately 4 years old. It has already been established that when he appeared for the preliminary hearing his hair was much shorter than in the photograph.

Thanks Buffy. It seems a completely antiquated system. I guess things change at the point of sentencing. You would think if they could be so wrong that providing no pictures at all might be better!

wee eck.... this is what I was referring to
