Agree with wee eck on KRH, his game is about sharpness in terms of pace etc so he’s going to need a good few weeks to get that sharpness back to give the edge over defenders. He may well struggle to make an impact but we won’t know for sure until the last 5 games of the season.

What I don’t understand is playing a 3-5-2 type formation when we don’t have any strikers? I’m not sure which position you would consider Jak and McCann as being ‘good’ at but they ain’t strikers.

If your plan was to play this way this season why sign or extend contracts of players like Jak, o’hallaran and McCann they just don’t fit into the system regardless of if they are even good enough which is a different issue.

Now we’re likely stuck with 2 of them warming a bench next season perhaps even alongside wighton if he ever regains fitness.

We`ve never played a 3-5-2,

Yesterday was a 4-5-1 but the 5 in midfield were fluid in the sense that otoo could go forward, Hamilton was fixed just in front of the back 4, and KRH was out wide right but other than that Todd and summers were both free roaming.

When we play 3 at the back it`s still only 1 up front with others buzzing about around them.

We didn’t play 3-5-2 yesterday, to be fair. Was more of a 3-6-1/5-4-1. Jakubiak was on his own up front, with Summers and Todd behind him. But Jakubiak is the sort of striker that undoubtedly needs a partner if he’s going to be effective. He’s not going to score goals, but he causes defences problems and creates space. I also just don’t think any of our other options are a good partner for him though.

I also don’t understand KRH as a wing back at this level. We have a lot less of the ball, so our wing backs need to do a lot of defending. This is not a strength of KRH’s game. Indeed, I think he’d be much better in the 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 we’ve played recently, as a winger. It’s no surprise to see us struggle, in the same way we have for the last 3 months, when we’ve gone to the back 3.

KRH and MWH were both out of position. Switching to a back 4 would have been really easy, with MWH going to his natural RB role and KRH moving forward into a more natural role for him. But our manager wasn’t willing to change it, even though we had zero attacking threat. Todd and Summers looked lost out there and should have been the first players to come off. It wasn’t their day at all, but McPake seems to have his favourites and will try to squeeze them into his system, even if it doesn’t work at all. Otoo and Hamilton in midfield, protecting a back 4 should be a solid enough defensive shape/system, would have allowed us to play most players in their natural positions as well.

KRH did pretty well I thought yesterday, he was more effective coming inside and trying to play some combinations, not really much point in him trying to get to the byeline and hang up crosses for Jakubiak who isn`t great in the air and Summers at the back post.

Matty Todd was our poorest attacking player, most of our promising moves broke down with him. His movement and energy is always a threat, but there needs to be some quality - you could say that about most of our attacking players. Summers looked more lively, he should have had a chance to play centrally behind Jak. Not using Moffat at all was strange and the substitution of Otoo was ridiculous.

Very frustrating, because we were the better side for an hour against the team that is second top, defensively we looked very comfortable yet we conceded twice. It was very fine margins that decided the game, a half mistake from Mehmet and ball breaking to Stanton, a miracle save from Dabrowski and then Welch-Hayes moving out of the path of the ball. Some soft free-kicks and some `home` friendly refereeing didn`t help either.

That said its McPake`s job to make sure the fine margins go in our favour, it`s his squad, so if the strikers or keeper aren`t up to scratch - its on him. As it the drop in the level of performance in the last 30 minutes of the last two games, which yes is partly confidence after conceding a second goal, but it is also largely due to his poor substitutions and tactics.

Nah, KRH was definitely at RWB yesterday. MWH, Benedictus and MFW were the back 3.

We had the players to play a 4-2-3-1 formation yesterday, which is used by many teams in the modern era.

I’m a firm believer that formations should be determined by who is available to get the best out of each player

Miles Welch-Hayes Actually jumps out of the way of the ball for the 2nd goal as well which I never noticed at the time.

87Par,

im gonna call it now. ,KRH will not be as effective in this league.

He won’t be as effective playing against better defenders? That’s hardly rocket science, is it ?

Ewan has so much potential but his first touch is a literal bombscare at times. I do wonder what Pars fans see sometimes.

Perhaps his strength, running power, attitude and ability to play in a number of positions ? His first touch and passing will improve as he matures.

Matty needs to get up a gear. He`s a talent. But it`s business end now.

He’s missed a lot of games. You don’t get up to match fitness after a game or two and everyone is allowed an off day

In addition. Not sure you were at the game yesterday or not but you could hear the fans wanting it to go wide to Kane. But expectations need to be lowered cos this league is different gravy.

And sorry Raymie I want someone who is effective in this league especially given the position we find ourselves in.. I dont want to have to wave to Falkirk on the way past. See my post after the match before I get labled.

I wasn’t there but did see the game. You have to cut KRH some slack, imo.
He’s been injured lots and it takes time to get your confidence back. It’s natural to be a little cautious, as you contemplate another injury, in the back of your mind

Completely agree. We should be using the best system for the players available, rather than forcing them into a shape that doesn’t play to their strengths. Played so many players out of position, when a 4-2-3-1 (the shape we’ve actually used in our wins recently) would have meant players were in their natural/best positions. I don’t understand McPake’s stubbornness here, it’s cost us far too many points and I’m really concerned that he’s gone back to that system and refused to change it during the game as well, when it wasn’t working… again!

We rarely look like a threat going forward and constantly concede soft goals, not exactly a recipe for success. If we do manage to stay safe this season there needs to be a drastic rethink in the summer about how the team approaches the championship.

It`s a remarkable feat that year after year in the championship this club is run so poorly despite the money coming in from the fanbase.

Its great to have Bene and KRH back, but they will both need time to get up to their best again. Hopefully KRH offers us something a bit different going forward, but unless we stick MFW up front we`re winning very few headers from crosses. Cutting the ball back to the penalty spot for Todd and Otoo though might be a better bet.

I`d be gutted if I was Paul Allan. He was a MOM contender for me the previous 3 games, but found himself hooked against Airdrie then dropped to the bench yesterday. Half of our goals in the last 8 games came from set pieces but our best taker of those was benched.

Miles Welch-Hayes getting out of the way was criminal at this level, he’s yet to convince me he’s decent at all. Comrie who has been distinctly average this season is far better.

I did hope we would get a chance from a corner but not yesterday, we have more height in the team now and the excellent Hamilton too. Holmes had a good glancing head that hit the post in a previous game could he play centre? He was put in wide area instead either that or stick a centre half in the middle towards games end and quick poacher like sutherland.

He`s a good solid player who could play for any championship club easy, you could see the within 5 minutes he got on debut.

It would be interesting to know If he got a shout or if he thought he was more to side so the ball was going wide.

But he should a just headed it

Holmes? He’s like playing with 10 men. Utterly dreadful.

The performance was an I.provement on the last RR game at EEP where we were outplayed and deserved to lose. The issue now is a different one. The defence and midfield need to have some confidence that we can score goals in the final 3rd.

I don`t see any lack of effort. The heads can go down if we lose a goal and have no confidence we can score to get back in the game.
