41. Author: Berry Date: Fri 4th Jul 2025. 11:46 I can only really view Cook from what I’ve seen (which is very little to nothing) and from what I’ve heard, none of which has really been positive. I’m not convinced he had a lot to do with Lennon coming on board, in Cooks statements each time he’s referenced it wasn’t doable without Bord. Lennon has said as much as well. Sounds like Bord did all the heavy lifting and Cook probably did a facilitating role, the type that draft an agenda, make sure all attendees make the meeting and take the minutes… Reply |
42. Author: wee eck Date: Fri 4th Jul 2025. 11:52 Well, of course, nothing`s doable without Bord! He`s the owner! So in the recruitment of Lennon his role was merely secretarial but in lots of other things which are viewed as failures he was culpable? Reply |
43. Author: Berry Date: Fri 4th Jul 2025. 11:57 Tongue firmly in cheek to the secretarial reference but I’m not convinced Cook should be claiming credit for getting Lennon through the door. That’s all. Reply |
44. Author: OorWullie Date: Fri 4th Jul 2025. 11:57 Cook solely went to get Tidser and pissed off kelty with an illegal approach. They upped the price and then we had to pay him off. Well done Cook Reply |
45. Author: OorWullie Date: Fri 4th Jul 2025. 12:00 Berry, Fri 4 Jul 11:57 Bord was pissed off with the Tidser appointment so he took it on himself to get Lennon. He had to put loads on the table mind to get him to come. Cook got the coffee and biscuits in. Reply |
46. Author: Berry Date: Fri 4th Jul 2025. 12:01 My secretarial reference might be accurate after all then! 😂 Reply |
47. Author: wee eck Date: Fri 4th Jul 2025. 12:20 So Bord had no part in Tidser`s appointment? In that case he must have been really annoyed when the club released a video interview with DC made after the appointment in which he stated that, although Tidser was on the initial short list of candidates drawn up, his credentials were subsequently confirmed by data analysis prepared by JB`s software. After his appointment NL said - “I more or less agreed things with the owner towards the end of the season,” he explained. “Obviously, there was negotiations going on with the contract and that, but he was true to his word and I’ve been true to my word, so we’ve got a good relationship, which is really important. And obviously, the people around the club, David’s obviously important in that aspect. We know there’s a lot of work that needs to be done, that’s a real challenge for me and one that I’m looking forward to.” As I say, you just can`t believe anything from people claiming to know what goes on behind the scenes. 49. Author: Berry Date: Fri 4th Jul 2025. 12:41 That excerpt though doesn’t really prove Cook had involvement in the hiring of Lennon. Admittedly you’d think being the CEO is someone who’s obviously important. Reply |

51. Author: Bamba-Daft Date: Fri 4th Jul 2025. 12:49 Never10yairds, Fri 4 Jul 11:37 Based on what, exactly? Results were crap & we scored twice (?) in 7 games. Mcpake would have achieved what Lennon did. Then there’s the hype regarding his apparent pull to get players in based on working for him, going well so far isn’t it? If we don’t sign several players to go straight into the staring 11 very quickly, looking at our squad.. we’ll be kicking about the bottom of the league again by Christmas. Lennon has yet to earn any praise whatsoever. Reply |
52. Author: DA-go Par Adonis Date: Fri 4th Jul 2025. 13:03 Lennon had a disaster in his first game. We then only scored 2 goals in the next 5 games, but only conceded 1. By the end of that, we had taken 8 points and were safe from relegation. The Morton game was a dead rubber, although we apparently played ok after the bad start - and the terrible penalty decision. So, he deserves some praise. It wasn`t great viewing, but he did a decent job based on the mess he inherited. Tidser`s last game was just about as bad as I can remember seeing and we were 100% going down at that point. McPake, from memory, managed 15 points from 19 games. The league cup was spectacularly bad prior to that. I don`t think there is any evidence to suggest that McPake would have achieved what Lennon did. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Equal rights and justice in this time Reply |
53. Author: Berry Date: Fri 4th Jul 2025. 13:05 wee eck, Fri 4 Jul 12:47 It’s not really, being a CEO in any company is an important role so David Cook as a person is in an important position. That’s different from me thinking he’s any good at it. Reply |
54. Author: Wotsit Date: Fri 4th Jul 2025. 13:25 The last time this club was anywhere close to being well run was when it was fan owned. Were we not promised that private investment was essential and would improve our situation? Also, the Chief Executive is ultimately responsible for more or less everything at the club. Anything that they are not directly responsible for is something where they are responsible for the recruitment, or retention, of the person who is. They usually line manage senior staff who are in charge of departments. The CEO at my work would take responsibility if I screwed up, despite him not knowing how to do my job or recruiting me, my boss, my boss`s boss or even my boss`s boss`s boss. He is ultimately responsible for the whole shebang. The enemy travels by private jet, not by dinghy. Reply |

57. Author: DBA Date: Fri 4th Jul 2025. 17:15 The following was a quote from Cook on the Club Update on 9th May: "With many players departing, we will, of course, be making significant changes to the playing personnel ahead of the new season. It has been frustrating that we haven’t been able to mount a promotion challenge over the past two seasons and that is something we are keen to address. It is going to be a big summer, and we will be doing everything in our power to get recruitment right to make sure we deliver the results we all crave. Alongside the busy summer in the transfer market..." We`re now 2 months down the line, a week out from our first competitive game, and we`ve signed an 18 year old and a player from League 1. The chairman set these expectations for fans by saying we were in for a busy summer. It`s been nothing like it. They may well be working hard in the background, but it`s no surprise that frustrations are only getting bigger when Cook himself set us up for that. Reply |
58. Author: NMCmassive Date: Fri 4th Jul 2025. 17:16 wee eck, Fri 4 Jul 11:43 You do though. That’s why I think there’s a fair to middling chance you’re the same person and also a small to fair chance you’re David Cook. I mean just look at everything you’ve wrote about him, it’s exactly what Dave cook in disguise would write COYP Reply |
59. Author: Never10yairds Date: Fri 4th Jul 2025. 17:27 DBA raises a good point. David Cook raised expectations high, he must now do whatever it takes to meet them. An old phrase I live by running my own business is “under promise and over deliver”, I’m sure Mr Cook has heard that before. Reply |
60. Author: GJS93 Date: Fri 4th Jul 2025. 17:36 and then in June he said.... "We would all like to sign players early to give as long as possible to settle into the club. But at times, we have to be patient and diligent to ensure that we sign the right ones not just the easy ones. Right now, we are exploring domestic and international markets. We are embracing the video and data led recruitment tools that Short Circuit bring to the table as well as traditional scouting methods in markets close to home. We are making progress in some areas that we have identified and hopefully more signings will be forthcoming over the next couple of weeks." the first part should have been said in May alongside what was said. July`s "update" will presumably be coming soon.....i predict still trying to sign "quality", wont sign anyone just for the sake of it and more patience is required with a reminder that the window has 2 months left to go.
