122. Author: McCaig`s Tower Date: Wed 10th Dec 2025. 17:47 I`d taken my eye of this particular story but there seem to have been some developments. One, the one remaining director was seeking leave to appeal against his classification as not being a fit and proper person to run a football club in Scotland. I believe it has just been confirmed that leave to appeal has been denied. Two, HAFC appear to have entered into an agreement with a company which may be described as a "payday loan company", putting up all their assets as collateral. I imagine this is to pay wages, which caused such an issue last month. It has been suggested that the club`s Articles of Association require two directors to sign such a form - not surprising given a lone wolf employee got conned out of a large amount of money a few years back. However. there is only one director (he appears to have had a board meeting with himself the other night (and presumably some sort of advisor)). I wonder whether this loan deal is therefore valid (and if not, whether there is a case against the person who signed it. On the face of it, default could lead to the Loan Company acquiring a lot of assets (such as they are). More importantly. Gerry Strain (at least for now) is talking about bringing in administrators. therefore bowing to the inevitable. But who will take it on? There are huge debts (including a Covid loan, which may have been subloaned from the SFA, and HMRC are owed a whack. I would fear for Accies` future. Reply

| 125. Author: McCaig`s Tower Date: Tue 16th Dec 2025. 15:31 Fine words. But will they butter any parsnips? It looks like Gerry Strain has got out of Dodge. At least that’s what he’s saying officially. I think the majority shareholder is in Turkey and now it’s the Wonga loan arranger who is the new Serif in town. He’ll be there to look after Funding Globe’s punt. I’m not sure he has any documented interest in running a football club. This is what happens when your club is a basket-case, and no-one else will lend you money. Desperate times require desperate measures. Nor am I sure how much 1 month’s wages will be. £50k? It’ll be 2 months in a couple of weeks and then what? I assume the plan is to try to raise some cash in the transfer window and then maybe cling on until the end of season pay-outs, hoping that either sell-on clauses for Ferguson or One can bear fruit, perhaps at a discounted sale. I don’t think it’s really possible in practice to do a cut-price, DIY administration. The major costs will be players wages and they are under contract. Still, I assume the SPFL is on top of it all. | 127. Author: neils Date: Tue 16th Dec 2025. 23:17 Seems a matter of time before they are finished. I guess this is the only thing stopping Kelty getting relegated. Pretty desperate situation, in the hands of pay day loan company, no stadium, the few fans fighting amongst themselves, it`s hard to see anything other than liquidation - even a phoenix club seems unlikely. Sad times. Reply |

130. Author: Indiapar1 Date: Tue 30th Dec 2025. 19:05 It`s sad to see clubs like Hamilton struggling financially. The current league structure as a spectacle is clearly not drawing any crowds. Should be a wakeup call for those who run the game in Scotland. Have they ever reached out to club supporters to obtain their views on how the game should progress in the future i.e through surveys etc? G Wardrope Reply

134. Author: Buster_Brown Date: Tue 30th Dec 2025. 19:52 Does anybody know what the SPFL rules are about expelling a club?? Or what would happen if a club goes bust?? I’m guessing rules would have changed since Gretna. Really feel for the Hamilton fans on this one, but it could happen. Loving You, Is In My DNA 🇾🇪 Post Edited (Tue 30 Dec 19:53) Reply
135. Author: neils Date: Tue 30th Dec 2025. 20:15 I`m pretty sure Gretna limped on till the end of the season? I seem to remember either PFA or even what was SPL paying wages, and dumping players, just to avoid the headache of f what to do Who else, Airdrieonians, Clydebank I think we`re bought pre season? Feel hell of a sorry for players and fans, this is a very historical club, but had some really shady characters. Reply

138. Author: McCaig`s Tower Date: Tue 30th Dec 2025. 22:56 I haven`t read the SPFL rules yet as I can never find them easily so I`m guessing when I say I imagine Accies record would be expunged and it would effectively be a 9 team division with the bottom (9th) placed club at the end of the season going into a relegation play-off. Unless anyone else goes bust between now and the end of the season. I think you have to go back to 1932 for the last time 2 teams failed to finish the season - with Bo`ness and Armadale being expelled before Christmas and their records were deleted. (It has happened more recently in England, though) Before that, in 1928-29 Bathgate and Arthurlie both resigned midseason - Bathgate`s record was expunged but Arthurlie held on for a bit longer and their record was allowed to stand as they had completed their fixtures against the leading teams. With 10 team divisions, such a scenario is much less likely. I think the teams that have gone bust usually have the grace to limp on to the end of the season before expiring - Third Lanark, Airdrieonians, Gretna, that team from Glasgow. It`s been said that Championship football is unsustainable. Perhaps the same could be said for Division One. Officially, the SPFL didn`t think there was a problem, yet ICT, the Accies, Dumbarton and Edinburgh City have all had problems recently. But the Accies situation is like a runaway train. You know it`s going to hit something hard or derail sooner or later - you just hope there`s not going to be too much damage when it happens. And it looks like it is finally happening - it has required an emergency loan pr two to get the wages paid - there was always going to be a problem at the end of this month, and presumably Jonny Towers has seen enough. Accies best hope might be that the weather will postpone the game and allow them to kick the can a few feet further down the road. There is talk of cobbling a team together with coaches and amateurs as the professionals may be advised not to pay. Is the word "expunged" ever seen in other contexts? Reply

140. Author: neils Date: Tue 30th Dec 2025. 23:12 I think these teams were all in the `C` league? I`m pretty sure Lochgelly had a team in the league about that time, apparently it was a brutal recession (again...) that did for them, Beith too, so mostly mining villages and towns ( I think there was a big wage cut, mass unemployment private mines...) there`s a really book "Scotland`s Lost Clubs` gives you a full record of all the teams, ground locations, why they are no longer in the league etc. The English team was Aldershot I think, was there not also Maidstone that folded mid season? Sadly I can only see Accies folding rather than go into administration - they still owe a huge COVID loan from the government for starters, where do you start? It could have been us, we had a real web to unpick, so am forever grateful to the people who un picked that- the same people some of our fans hounded out! Reply
