It`s hard to believe the previous owners authorised combined wages of £7,000 a week for two players when they froze James McPake`s recruitment budget last season.

They did, but they also kept blaming the astro and the portacabins down at Rosyth for the financial issues. When you read the communications, though, they constantly mention grants. I think the Germans never really realised how much money was required to get out of the Championship and instead put their money into the wrong areas.

This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it.

"It`s not readily available GG. You only have to be friends with one or two of the players to know. And before everyone jumps on and says "that`s confidential" etc we all know in reality that work mates talk and people find out salaries. Is it really hard to believe that he earns around £100 an hour for a working week? I know what everyone earns at my work. I shouldn`t but I do. I also know it was a sore point for me back at the start of my tenure when I earned much less than some colleagues."

Thanks for the detailed reply, SoP. Most players on decent wages are asked not to divulge these to their teammates, but some can`t help themselves. Such thoughtless behaviour can sometimes lead to the break up of dressing room harmony.

"KRH and CK are costing us £7000 a week between them. Let that sink in. Neither of those players are from the new regime. It will take a while to clear the decks. This is very much a marathon and not a sprint."

I`m intrigued as to how some posters are privy to the salaries of individual players in our squad.

Genuine question. Is this information freely available in the public domain, or are these said posters friends or relatives of these players? If it’s the latter, I`d imagine the players concerned would be less than chuffed to have this information splashed on this forum.

Or perhaps it`s pure guesswork? 🤔

It took a long time to secure CK`s services at the start if we recall and there was a good reason for that. He was training with us for quite some time whilst his agent tried to secure him the most lucrative deal. Mcpake and McKay did this in the end but after the change in management ,even less ability to train and the obvious strict work ethic NL brings you can see why there is a bit of disharmony as a result.

The domino effect now is we are trying to secure JCM as a player and his agent is looking for MORE than CK earns. Whether we are successful in this or even want to commit to such a deal remains to be seen. These businessmen in charge are multimillionaires for a very good reason.

NL`s statements constantly reminding the fans that this will take time is not as simple as him admitting we need better players. It`s also because he wants to build a squad of players with a recognisable structure with a certain amount of parity and possibility of progression for the players.

For what it`s worth I think CK is a superb player and when we do get to see him play, and invariably score, I love it. I wish I could wave a wand that meant he didn`t have the injury issues he does.

Absolute waffle

Agreed, that`s just a load of made up nonsense in general

You`ve both got me. I did in fact make every single bit of that up. I am away to dry my eyes and think about my choices.

What is our ambition? To be competitive in the middle of the premier league? Or to bring through youngsters and make some cash selling them on, or a little of both?

We’re very inconsistent as were a relatively young team and we’re lacking the cutting edge in some key areas. Quite feasible we’ll lose JCM in the summer and possibly Abdulai. Who knows tod might come back onto a game and leave and perhaps Fraser too.

Going to be hard to get the right players in to cover those better players leaving and continue to improve as a team. You need to unearth 2-3 gems each summer who are ready to compete in a physical hard league and make sure the experienced pro’s you have are good enough to take you further up the league.

It’s a hard one, do we continue to invest in youngsters and remain inconsistent or do we prioritise getting the quality in that takes you forward.

To get out of this league you need a core of quality players supplemented by promising youngsters and not promising youngsters supplemented by some quality players.

I think you are correct in this Berkey. The last few seasons have been extremely hard and if we can finish this season well, and I don’t automatically mean a playoff spot, then we will have a clearer vision of what we have to do. But we must not be fighting another relegation battle. I think to see the fruits of Lennon’s and the clubs strategy will only start to become obvious after this season, but agree the core must be seasoned pros, but are some of our youngsters seasoned pros now?

Well this management and ownership have managed to unearth the gems you mention above in the last 12 months Berky so that’s a pretty good start, who knows they might get even better at it!

Big summer ahead. A number of players out of contract who won’t be getting a new one.

It’s the owners first season. They’ve done works round the stadium, finally kicked out Stephen’s, brought in Neil Lennon, improved the squad and invested heavily in the scouting network.

Nobody came in for our players over the previous two summers apart from Crawley Town or some other nobody diddy team in England bidding for Otoo. We’re now concerned about loosing 3/4/5 players.

What more can the owners and club actually do? to me it looks like they’re doing their best at dealing with the off field issues and are giving the manager the best squad they can.

Can`t believe we`ve found something we agree on 😂

100%. While I`d be keen to keep the majority of the squad, I`m confident Lennon and the club can find replacements.

I`m not in the know in the slightest but the club previously felt like there was a bit of an old pals act going on. Maybe wrong but that`s how I perceived it. New owners seem to be keen to get stuff done.

Our ambition should be in becoming a top 6 club, regularly playing for European places and cup semis or finals.

We have the stadium. We have (nearly) an excellent training ground. We have the manager. We have an ambitious board who’ve put up cash.
Our average attendance last season, with some really poor performances, was 5,500, very similar to St Mirren at 5,700, 9th in the average attendance league, and who have just won the League Cup.

Given we’d have more season ticket sales and walk ups, our opponents in the Premier will bring larger supports, as shown by the recent Hibs game, then that average attendance can only go up. 7,000 might be a reasonable guess if we’re playing well. Better money from tv, sponsorship will add to revenue.

The glass ceiling which makes it so hard for us to get into the top league can be broken next year, if we retain the bulk of our best players, and recruit well instead of using short term unproven loanees with that ridiculous turnover of players every summer. Using sports analysis with Neil Lennon’s final say should help recruitment.

The top league means it’s easier to attract and afford better quality of players, established pros who also help our younger players in their development.

Every club in Scotland is a selling club, and we’d be no different, but we’d get fees when selling players on (not difficult, when was the last time we sold someone for a good fee?), a procession of younger players gaining experience, the means to replace with better quality and possibly greater cash from European games and cup runs. A virtuous circle!

That’s our ambition.

I’d agree with seasoned par, this is pretty much what I’m hoping for long term.

It’ll require a big summer transfer window to get us out of the championship next season but with some of our bigger earners out of contract at the end of the season, it’s all very doable. Get some good experienced (but not over the hill) pros in to compliment our younger squad, some of whom will be be better next year than they have been so far.

We will probably lose JCM if we don’t go up this season (which I don’t think we will) but we can find another RCB somewhere I’m sure.

Getting in the best goalie in the championship and a 20 goal striker in should be our top priorities. Do that, retain most of the rest, we win the champ next season.
