It is of course possible that one or more of our players will let the occasion get them. Sadly I remember the League Cup final against Hibs, when that seemed to happen to the whole team.

But in a funny way I wonder if the youth of several players and the foreign background of a couple might actually serve us well - they haven`t had 56 years of disappointment and may not feel the pressure as much as fans do.

If Lennon can get them just to think about the match and what they can do, and NOT the occasion or the quality of the opposition, then that may be as much as we can hope for.

If we somehow manage to get through the playoffs we’d definitely deserve to be promoted. I would also suspect we’d add 7/8 players at least to the squad for the premier league.

Andy Tod is still a good youngster. I really think he needs to learn how to be more influential on a game more consistently. He’s sometimes to easily brushed aside or goes through spells of doing absolutely nothing. I don’t think that will cut it as you move up the football pyramid. His work rate looks better than earlier in the season, he’s improved over the season over all as a player to me 🤷🏻‍♂️

I was disappointed after the game, particularly the showing in the second half but just generally throughout the game, at times we were deliberately slow in getting the ball back into play from goal kicks, throw ins, no real urgency.

For me it was more a missed opportunity to be more comfortable, after scoring so early and the chances we created in the first half, I thought we’d go on and try and kill the tie off, to allow us to consider resting the odd player or two for Partick.

But second half, I know their keeper made some good saves, but for me Arbroath were much better.

Credit to them though, showing why they finished third and how they didn’t fold after conceding so early is testament to them.

So it does make Gayfield a more nerve inducing trip than I hoped but Lennon has proven he knows how to win important games and we’ve got a good record of scoring through there so I’m hoping I’m back at EEP next Tuesday.

I think its fair to say finishing 4th the odds are stacked against you. This is more so given we are in the Scottish Cup final. For me the cup is where we have a better chsnce of winning instead of trying to navigate the playoffs. Eother way its been a very successful season.

Arbroath have only lost a game by more than one goal twice since we beat them 5-0.

Anyone looking for us to win so comfortably that we could rest players on Friday was setting themselves for a big disappointment.

Thistle didn`t beat them in 4 attempts, which is quite the achievement of you look at their record at Firhill.

We played well in the first half and they came back at us in the 2nd. Overall though, a win was a good result.

we play better football against teams that want to play football. The 2nd half on tuesday was a scrappy niggly stop/start game where neither team could get any flow.

We at times are too deliberate in our play must do pass 1/2/3/4 but the times we do 1/2/4 and change the tempo to create openings and more space we are much more of a threat. doing that every phase of play however becomes predictable.

watching Kane you can see he is levels above in terms of reading of the game and would still be at higher level if his body was able.

I feel like Kane has eventually found his way into the team by default due to lack of other options. I think if Rudden or Thomas had remained fit we’d be using him less frequently and he wouldn’t have built his fitness to the levels they are at now. I’m glad he is playing, because like you say, his experience is a level above and having him fit and playing is our best chance of promotion. He is up there with the best all round strikers in the division and he is a perfect foil for Tod.
