`I think decent is a stretch. It was better than the first half at least, and we had more of the ball certainly, but largely because Morocco were pretty happy to let us, safe in the knowledge we weren’t really going to threaten. And we didn’t.`

I`m not sure any team would take their foot of the gas in a crucial group game when only one goal up, especially when they could make up to five substitutions. They looked a bit troubled when Doak ran at them down the right and were a wee bit lucky to survive two decent penalty shouts.

None of us wanting to be dumping on our national team. Yeah Morocco are in the top ten but Hatai aren`t in the top eighty. Between the two games we managed two shots on target. By any metric that isn`t good and it`s not some grave sin to point that out. We could and should be better than we are showing.

And although my eyes were open

The pundits on Radio Scotland are a lot more positive about the performance and result than the consensus seems to be on here. Whenever we lose a game folk come on here blaming their favourite scapegoat, blaming Steve Clarke despite the fact that his tactics and selections have got us to three tournament finals and questioning why some players were ever in the squad in the first place.

I’ll give Steve Clarke credit for getting us to three tournaments, but we’ve hardly done ourselves justice when we’ve gone to any of them. Criticism for that is just as fair as praising him for getting us there.

Do you honestly think 3 points from our first 2 games here isn`t doing ourselves justice? What did you expect?

Honestly, yes. We were honking against Haiti and arguably lucky to come away with a win. And we were not good tonight either. I want to see us play like we should be able to with some of the players we’ve got. But we’ve no ambition under Clarke, so we don’t.

And they nearly scored an OG too but “they were happy to let us have the ball because we weren’t threatening” 😂

I honestly wonder if folk watched the same game.

You’re either talking out your erse or you’re on the wind up WYPar. No ambition under Clarke.

Good grief.

You’re right, we could have had two penalties, could see those given for sure. And Gannon-Doak looked like he could be dangerous, and did put them a little on the backfoot, but his reticence to put the ball in the box when he got into a decent position summed us up as an attacking force for me.

Just my opinion. As I’m sure you’re entitled to your own. That’s surely the beauty of the game?

To be fair, I just like a good moan after a defeat. Always have. I find it cathartic.

(But we were still pretty terrible ;) )

It is obvious Morocco are a better team with better players (undefeated in 24 games, 3 defeats in 63 I heard), so if we had planned on going toe-to-toe with them for 90+ minutes we might have lost 4-1, and seriously damaged our goal difference, which could decide our fate.

I suspect Clarke was using the same game plan that Lennon used in the Cup Final - keep it tight for the first half and frustrate the opposition, stay in the game at 0-0 or 0-1 and then go for it in the second half. TBH it nearly worked, and our GD is still not negative.

Someone needs to explain to me how the foul on McGinn in the box isn`t a penalty.

Here`s my tuppence worth .....
We beat a diddy team in the first game (just) and it kinda went to our heads and we (the fans) thought we were better than we actually are.
The reality is , we`re not a great side, that`s it.
We`re decent on our day , ...but our days are few and far between.
This was never going to be an easy group to get out of.
I fully expect Brazil to thump us but we might get lucky and be one of the sides that go through on 3 points.
I reckon that`s our only chance
If that happens, great.
If not , hey we gave it our best.
Here`s a question..... How many teams at this tournament are ranked lower than us ?
Would I be right in saying it`s more than 10 teams?
And we`ve beaten 2 of them (recently) in Haiti and Curacao.

Overall I think we did pretty well - we have our limitations - we`re ranked 40 or so for a reason, so I think we gave the Number 5 in the world team quite a hard second half.

I don`t get the criticism of Clarke, Gannon-Doak, or Dykes. They all gave it plenty. Unfortunately Adams got starved, and we were careless with possession too often, which had them running at us too often.

We`re not really a flair team - we`re gutsy. Morocco are top notch. We did OK. And we`re still in with a chance of qualifying even with only 3 points - by virtue of keeping Morocco to one goal.

Absolutely this. Some folk overdoing the criticism today. Top 5 teams defenders stopped us til late in the second half where we rattled them. 0-1 to a top sides isnt a disgrace

A narrow defeat against the 5th best team in the world, but look at everyone with their anti-agendas (pick from Clarke/Hanley/Dykes/Ralston etc etc).

The fact that there`s an expectation that we could (and should) have done more says a lot about this team and the manager.

Well said. Some folk need a cold shower.

I dont think it was. He didn`t trip him. Just nudge with the hip. Feet or legs didn`t make contact. I thought the McTominay one was more likely. Some refs might have given that.
, but it would have been soft.

To be honest most of our players play to a very high standard for their clubs and in very competitive leagues but when they are placed in the same team something isn’t clicking. Yes we have had some amazing results and qualifying was great after years of disappointment. But we still seem to be at the same level as before and not able to make an impact in a tournaments. for me Clarke has and never will be the manager who can make a difference. I’m not a fan of his tactics and I’d wish we’d play to the strengths that suit the Scottish football style. There’s no way Morocco should bullying us off the ball all night. Even if they are a far better team. You need to get stuck in and compete more on a physical level. I don’t want to slate individual players as I not fully aware of circumstances but some are a poor representation of how good they are when they play for their league side. I not sure how we fix that but if we want to qualify regularly and expand that by getting through the first round then we need to figure it out.

Never a pen. I would be raging if that was given against us..McGinn spent more time on his ar$e during the game and maybe the ref took that into consideration

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

I didn’t realise late challenge hip checks were allowed in football 🤔

I think our pressure in 2nd half deserved a draw, despite not getting that goal we needed. What I didn’t get was why he brought on Stewart instead of Shankland? Him and Dykes are effectively the same, and leaving our best goal scorer on bench when chasing a goal seemed strange.

And not going to lie, but what have Hanley and Ralston got on Clarke? Sorry, but Hanley was so far off it tonight it was embarrassing for him. And Ralston over Hickey? 🙄

Bottom line, we weren`t good enough. I thought we set up not to lose a goal but those plans went up in smoke after 70 seconds. Sometimes you just have to go for it. The Scotland teams of the past when facing Brazil did that. I hope we can do that next week.

I don`t think we`ve ever beaten Brazil though, have we? `Going for it` against the best teams seldom works. Fans always favour it but professional football managers are more canny, knowing the likely outcome.
