Hopefully he gets injured during training.... either that of Clarke sees sense and benches him 😉

I don`t think we`ve ever beaten Brazil though, have we? `Going for it` against the best teams seldom works. Fans always favour it but professional football managers are more canny, knowing the likely outcome.

Thats fair comment, but sometimes fortune favours the bold. I think it would be better to have a go early in the game rather than go a goal behind and try and get back into the game. Reminicent of a few Pars games last season.

Hanley made a terrible error for the goal, otherwise, I can`t remember him making too many other mistakes.

Hendry was good again, Ferguson the pick of the midfielders (not the best sign as he is the most defensive one). Gunn had a decent game and looked more secure than normal.

We only got flashes from McGinn, McTominay and Christie in the 2nd half. The kindest thing I can say about Patterson is that he looks like a guy that hasn`t played football for 2 years. Tierney was ok, Robertson ok. Adams had absolutely nothing to work with.

Mclean added some composure when he came on, maybe needs to start in the Gilmour role. Dykes also did ok, pity about the header.

Mixed feelings for me. Can understand the tactics from Steve, and they kind of worked, I don`t think Morocco were particularly dangerous, but neither were we. I also feel that we are at our best when we are aggressive and press high. We might have got battered had we opened up earlier, but we might also have been able to push them back and attack more in the first half.

One more chance.

As much as folk might be happy at only losing by 1 goal to the 2022 semi finalists, the more worrying aspect for me is that it`s another tournament game where we`ve not made their goalkeeper work. We`ve played 8 tournament games under Clarke and we`ve probably registered about 6 shots in total across those 8 games, with even fewer on target (two deflected goals in Germany and a deflection v Haiti inclusive).

We were poor, but should have had at least one penalty shout go to VAR.

Morocco were good, but should have scored at least another goal based on the chances they had.

All in all a disappointing night for me.

I would rather we went on the front foot against top opponents. Most teams in the competition seem to go out early after the first goal. Brazil scored 3 first half and sat back after that. The game was over. When you boil it down, what is the differencein trying to score in the first 20 minutes to trying to score in the last oyher than you are already a goal down.

Expectations eh?

We did extremely well to hold the 6th best team in the world to one goal, and might even have sneaked a late equaliser. That might just let us get through in a 3rd spot. If so, job done - qualifying from the section for the first time.

Someone needs to explain to me how the foul on McGinn in the box isn`t a penalty.

Never a pen. I would be raging if that was given against us..McGinn spent more time on his ar$e during the game and maybe the ref took that into consideration

So is a foul in the box not a penalty now? OK then.......

The ref didn’t think it was foul so no pen.

We were rank. We got beat. End of…

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

That first is factually correct but doesn`t stop any of us disagreeing with him. Or are we not allowed opinions anymore?

I strongly disagree we were rank. We started badly but grew into the game and finished relatively strongly, in my opinion.

Doak must start on Wednesday and give them something to think about. We have to start our best players.

I don`t know what instructions have been given to officials in this WC but it seems to me that the VARs are more reluctant to intervene than in, say, the English or Scottish Premierships. They appear to be looking for `clear and obvious errors` so won`t overrule any borderline on-field decisions. Last night`s ref seemed to be more tolerant of physical contact than most, otherwise we might have been awarded one if not two.

Here’s a question for you, Da. Why not start our best players against Morocco ?

I don’t disagree but this hype over getting out of our group for the first time is a little diluted, imo, by the fact that third place was never good enough for past Scotland teams.
Only 32 teams qualified in the past. We now have 48 teams and 104 matches are played to get us back down to 32.

I think thats the way a lot of European leagues etc are ran by refs and VARs - I actually think the British group are well behind.

The issue is though that some contact warrants a foul, which last nights ref could not differentiate between for large periods of the game. Or was inconsistent with his decisions.

Now Ive looked back on it too, how on earth has the defender not seen red for bringing down Adams? He has got goal side, looks to be out pacing him, there is nobody else nearby and the ball is well outside the box…..

Must admit, I don`t know how the McGinn claim wasn`t a penalty considering some of the other decisions that were given as fouls and cards. The McTominay claim was much softer IMO. Ref was extremely inconsistent for both sides.

While we have some of the best individual players we`ve ever had and we`re overloaded at RB/LB & CM, this squad really lacks the balance that we had, particularly at GK, CB and ST, back in the 2010(?) era with the Smith/McLeish team IMHO.

....

I suspect Clarke was using the same game plan that Lennon used in the Cup Final - keep it tight for the first half and frustrate the opposition, stay in the game at 0-0 or 0-1 and then go for it in the second half. TBH it nearly worked, and our GD is still not negative.

I thought at the time that the foul on Adams should have been a red. He was was 100% gonna get the ball before the goalie. Shocking decision

The comparison with the Cup Final`s a good one. It was as if Morocco, like Celtic, had an extra man with their pace, movement and accuracy of passing causing us all sorts of problems. Fortunately they are not the most clinical of finishers. According to the stats they only managed one shot on target apart from the goal.
