IMO two clear penalties for Scotland not given.

Still wonder if it might come out that VAR was out of action last night.

Some of those incidents warranted the ref having a second look IMO.

The ref didn’t think it was foul so no pen.

We were rank. We got beat. End of…

That first is factually correct but doesn`t stop any of us disagreeing with him. Or are we not allowed opinions anymore?

I strongly disagree we were rank. We started badly but grew into the game and finished relatively strongly, in my opinion.

Doak must start on Wednesday and give them something to think about. We have to start our best players.

Here’s a question for you, Da. Why not start our best players against Morocco ?

I don`t know and I`m confused why you`re asking me that?

I think the McGinn one was a stronger shout that the Mctominay one. He knocks the ball past the man, the man puts his leg across and makes strong enough contact. If that happened at the halfway line he’s giving a foul. He had some other ridiculous decisions, the one where the guy threw his body into Mctominays legs and took him out was just outrageous refereeing.

On the day we just weren’t good enough. I don’t think Morocco put one high ball into the box other than corners, it wasn’t a game for Hanley. Big players like Mctominay have been invisible. Doak has looked our most dangerous outlet for months now, but again he was poor.. beat his man a few times then instead of putting a ball onto the target man in the box he checks back and tries to beat him again. We’ll do well to get out the group now as I fear a 3/4 goal hammering against Brazil. We simply can’t cope with players with pace.

That ref was letting those kind of challenges go unpunished the whole game which was fine but unexpected. Wouldnt surprise me if there was a prematch briefing where the var refs were told how he would officiate. I think McGinn`s slightly heavy touch counted against him as he wasn`t getting it before it went out. I do think it was a pen though.
Unlike McTominay`s which reminded me of the Paul Lambert penalty at EEP all those years ago where he chose to go down because he felt contact.

Raymie I believe you`ve played the game at a decent level; surely it`s subjective as to who our best players are and also who the best team for that game would be? Otherwise why would that absolute dummy Oakley Boothe be on from the start in the cup final?

No contact in Lambert`s case.

There was a lot of whinging through the game from us I thought, sitting claiming fouls rather than just getting up and getting on with it.

Despite that early lapse in concentration, I think we did okay over the piece against the 5th best team in the world. We could have had a point out of that if VAR had done it`s job and awarded that penalty. Key players like McGinn and McTominay haven`t really played as we know they can so far in this tournament, not much Clarke can do about that. I actually prefer Antony Ralston in a Scotland shirt than Patterson or Hickey, yet to see them have a good game at international level.

I think for all those having a go at Clarke, short memories, we hadn`t qualified for a major final since 1998 when he was appointed in 2019, since then we`ve qualified for the UEFA Euros 2020, been promoted to the UEFA Nations League A, qualified for the UEFA Euros 2024, and qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2026 where we still have a realistic chance to progress. We`ve had some fantastic results along the way, Norway, Spain. Denmark. He`s developed a fantastic team spirit, they are like a club team and got a 47% win ratio.

For everyone that wants rid of him, be careful what you wish for, do you fancy not being back at a major tournament until FIFA World Cup 2054?

I`d happily take that chance if it meant getting rid of Clarke. We are averaging a shot on target only once every 65 minutes over the Euros and WC so far. That is utterly horrendous. 7 shots on target since we kicked off against Germany.

Losing a goal within the first couple of minutes.. .
Dubious refereeing and being denied a clear penalty whilst finding it difficult to manage any substantial attacks on goal...

Remind you of any other team?

Expectations eh?

We did extremely well to hold the 6th best team in the world to one goal, and might even have sneaked a late equaliser. That might just let us get through in a 3rd spot. If so, job done - qualifying from the section for the first time.

I don’t disagree but this hype over getting out of our group for the first time is a little diluted, imo, by the fact that third place was never good enough for past Scotland teams.
Only 32 teams qualified in the past. We now have 48 teams and 104 matches are played to get us back down to 32.

I think you have to start our best players. No doubt we will have to score at keast one goal against Brazil to come away with at least a point. I thought we should have had a penalty and a sending off for thr foul on Adams. These are unfortunately "what ifs". The bottom line is we need to score and go out on the pitch with that mindset

The officials were very inconsistent and awarded fouls against Scotland`s physical tackles whilst denying the very same against.

I was in the stadium and was confident at the time that it was a penalty. Now looking back on it, I am totally šŸ’Æ convinced.

We were a few bad decisions away from gaining a point, possibly even winning that match and it hurts.

Clarke got us to this tournament and I am grateful to him. He has to stay and I don`t support the Clarke-Out Brigade and suspect there reasoning is massively flawed, small-minded and bizarrely ill-timed šŸ™

Clarke got his tactics spot on last night.
Go out to attack them first half , we would have lost 3-0 minimum.
I was very heartened by our team spirit second half and the only team holding out by the end were Morocco.
We have to (as fans) realise our level in football terms.
Stevie knows our limitations and played to our strengths.

I fear Euro 96 again where we miss out by one goal. We need to avoid a spanking against Brazil. If we can keep it down to 1 or 2 then we might scrape through. We did well to avoid a battering after losing an early goal.

Wouldn’t argue with that Raymie. Folk on here thinking we’re good enough to go all out against one of the best teams in the world really have no idea. Expectations eh?

But if we had scored you know they would likely still had enough about them to win.
