Author: Raymie the Legend Date: Tue 6th Oct 2026. 22:47 red-star-par, Tue 6 Oct 21:41 I think Steve Clarke probably doesn’t lose that game, as we would have been more solid, however he was in charge for 7 years and actually lost four of his first five matches, so it’s unfair to compare at this stage. The three at the back was cruelly exposed by a slick Slovenian side, but it wasn’t helped by having our wing backs playing really high and further exacerbated by having Doak in one of those positions. SB has to decide if he wants to stick to that system. Personally, I think he needs to be flexible and adjust according to the strength of the opposition and I’m not sure we have good enough defenders to play that way. We looked better when he switched to a four and I thought McPake deserves a start next time. He looked bright. It’s maybe time for McGinn to play in a deeper role, perhaps in a double pivot with Christie or Gilmour? You could then have Doak, McTominay and McPake supporting McBurnie There are 14 players in this squad who were not part of the WC. Thats a huge change. He may not be the man to take us forward, but he does deserve time to see if he can.  It`s bloody tough being a legend Ron Atkinson - 1983 Reply |

| 39. Author: Sacktheref69 Date: Wed 7th Oct 2026. 06:37 I said it after the World Cup, we just aren`t good enough. We are bang average at best. Steve Clarke probably doesn`t lose that game. He had his flaws, but he got us to a point where we were a hard side to beat. This "new era" are leaking goals, and too many of them are preventable. McGinn hasn`t performed for some time in a Scotland shirt and needs to either be reshuffled or replaced. The three at the back didn`t work. There were massive gaps, which Slovenia, to their credit, exploited, but they didn`t have to work overly hard to do so. This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it. Reply |
| 40. Author: DunfyDave Date: Wed 7th Oct 2026. 07:53 I was at the game and felt that even after we went one-nil up we were in trouble. The midfield were being bossed and could not hold the ball. Nobody was making runs into space and absolutely no pace. Hampden was incredibly silent with the exception of the 50 or so Slovenian fans whom sang their hearts out all evening and cheered their team on even after going 1-nil down. That was a must-win match for Scotland to get anything from that group and they were not even slightly prepared for it. DunfyDave Reply |
