42. Author: Bandy Date: Wed 7th Oct 2026. 08:43 I`ve been enjoying watching the Northern Ireland games over this International Break. They have some really talented, hungry, youngsters (and Josh Magennis :)), who seem to find an extra gear when playing for their country. Scotland are the opposite, our performances seem flat. I`d say Welsh and Binks are positives out of this set of games, Bowie looks like an upgrade on Dykes and Che Adams, Gilmour has been impressive slightly further forward. On the downside, Hendry has been atrocious, Ferguson a passenger and Robertson is clearly on the decline. Keepers I don`t know what we do - Gunn is the best of a bad bunch and he`s nowhere near international Standard. Has Big Ox got a Scottish Granny? Reply
43. Author: Playup_Pompey Date: Wed 7th Oct 2026. 09:03 Some pretty mental takes when it comes to this break. Going in I wasnt that fussed about results, more about the new manager getting in and setting up system he wants to use and have a look at players etc. Both away games with lots of positives. Seems plenty people want manager to come in overnight and win every game or its not good enough. Could have went through this 4 game window with Dykes/Hanley etc still turning up won 3 of the 4 games and learn/change absolutley nothing. People wanted change and clarke was hounded, got change and now its "clarke would have won these games" Reply
44. Author: SusieQ Date: Wed 7th Oct 2026. 09:28 Thought the whole game we looked very flat which was incredibly disappointing after Saturday`s win. 4 successive games taking their toll but that shouldn`t be an excuse as all teams had the same schedule. Calling up McBurnie was a mistake imo and playing him last night instead of Bowie - hmm 🤔 Thought he took too long to make changes and by the time he did we were chasing the game instead of trying to find a winner. There have been some positives I agree but 2 home defeats in a row isn`t a great return - no mitigating circumstances last night! Hopefully Switzerland won`t care about the last game having already won the group and we can somehow turn it on against North Macedonia. Said at the start of this NL that was willing to forego results with new manager and new players in the squad (wasn`t expecting miracles) but unfortunately that was utterly woeful last night. COME ON YE PARS! Reply
45. Author: ipswichpar Date: Wed 7th Oct 2026. 09:32 I didn`t want change so I can slag the new guy off! I don`t see how we have got the players to expect too much as it stands. If we are expecting both good results and football that`s good to watch we`re going to be burning through managers I suspect. I don`t accept leggy being a justification for anything. All the teams have had the same games to play. Reply

48. Author: thebear Date: Wed 7th Oct 2026. 09:56 We dont need a manager change we need a replacement SFA. Tonight was appalling, definitely the worst defensive performance I have seen. Mcburnie no goals, I can see why, he`s awkward big but no can do. Robertson, far to negative. Keeper awful.i could go on Post Edited (Wed 07 Oct 09:57) Reply

50. Author: Westies squint kicks Date: Wed 7th Oct 2026. 10:23 Hopefully the 4 game window will have helped the manager understand what he has and how best to utilise it. With a rebuild you expect a drop off in terms of performance initially just shocked at how poor we looked defensively, a good team would have ran up a score last night. Reply
51. Author: doctordandruff Date: Wed 7th Oct 2026. 10:44 We absolutely have to find a better goalkeeper. Gunn is the most ineffective starting goalkeeper I have seen play for Scotland. If Ox is third choice Motherwell level, then wtf is Gunn. I certainly wouldn`t start him ahead of Ox. Hendry is an ill disciplined idiot and broke the line countless times. With BGD picking his nose somewhere on the wing our right centre back was covering 3 positions and a quarter of the pitch by himself. Maybe the biggest lesson is the midfielders do not live up to their reputation. The effort and aggression needed for this system to work is nowhere to be seen. And Bowie starts every game. Reply
52. Author: wee eck Date: Wed 7th Oct 2026. 10:47 Steve Clarke`s main asset was what many people saw as his weakness - his stubbornness. He knew the limitations of his squad and played accordingly - with caution. He experimented a wee bit but ultimately settled on safety first. I wonder if Pocognoli will come to the same conclusion and, if so, how long will it take him? Reply

Results are not the be all and end all for me. I recall France telling their fans that they would need to put up with poor results whilst they bedded in their young players in the early 90s. That strategy proved to be successful when they won the World Cup in 1998 and the euros in 2000 ![]() It`s bloody tough being a legend Ron Atkinson - 1983 Post Edited (Wed 07 Oct 13:52) Reply |

59. Author: DunfyDave Date: Wed 7th Oct 2026. 18:17 From A.I. The Host Safety Net Rules No Automatic Berths: UEFA rules state that a maximum of two host nations can be granted automatic spots, meaning no co-host gets a free pass just for hosting. [1, 2] Reserved Backup Spots: A maximum of two final tournament places are held in reserve for the highest-ranked co-hosts that fail to qualify via the standard group stage (group winners or best runners-up). [1, 2] The Cap: If three or four of the co-hosts fail to finish in the top 20 spots on merit, only the two highest-ranked among those failing hosts will claim the reserved safety net spots. The remaining host nation(s) would miss out entirely if they fail to qualify through standard methods or the safety net ranking. DunfyDave Reply
