| 23. Author: hurricane_jimmy Date: Thu 2nd Apr 2026. 22:15 Quite excited to see how it all goes but a bit difficult to keep track with the time difference. I would be curious to know a bit more about the manufacture and testing of the vehicles as the missions were more frequent back in the 60s/70s but obviously production capabilities have changed a lot, vehicles are a lot more advanced and testing is a lot more rigorous these days. Likely this is a factor in how frequent missions can be, but I would have thought that the private sector being involved more in the design might have sped that up a bit. Very curious to see more about how the Lunar base will come together too and I would assume that it would be intended as a preparation for a Martian mission. Funnily enough, quite a common line I`ve heard from Mainland Chinese here in Hong Kong is that America never went to the Moon and that China proved it. Funny thing is that the opposite is true: the Chang`e missions took high resolution pictures of the sites which showed the landing sites. One of my bosses pulled it out the other day and reałly struggled to not laugh in the guy`s face! Reply |

Author: Dandy Warhol Date: Thu 2nd Apr 2026. 22:27 red-star-par, Thu 2 Apr 21:27 They do, all this pomp and ceremony to "go round the moon" when apparently decades ago we were playing buggy races on it. How did tech regress so much between then and now? Seriously, what utter nonsense. I don`t wanna go down like disco. Reply |

The reason is actually more infuriating and unbelievable than you could possibly imagine. Go find out yourself, or ask Buffy, she seems to know. ![]() Reply |

In my experience, it`s only Maga nutters and Communist sympathisers that believe the moon conspiracies. In the case of the latter, it`s quite hilarious because the Communist societies have generally been terrible at innovation and rely on IP theft, which was the case with the Soviet Union and is the case with China. How you are supposed to create a Social Utopia without having an economy to support it and necessary technological innovation is something that has always puzzled me. Particularly when the most successful countries are Social Democracies. Reply |

And I`ll talk to you like you are stupid while I`m doing it. Perhaps everybody with an Astrophysics PhD signs an agreement that they`ll keep this a big secret from the stupid sheep amongst us. I don’t think it was ever a question of technology, more motivation. I’ve had the technology to go to Ibrox for 40 odd years, but I’ve been before and I’m in no rush to go back. With space travel, the public got a bit bored and coupled with the huge expense (perhaps the oil shock of the early 70s was a factor) attention shifted to Space Stations, Space Shuttles and not doing very much at all. The Challenger and Columbia disasters didn’t help. I don’t think the physics has changed. If you apply a constant force to a body, it accelerates. If it goes fast enough it can escape the earth’s atmosphere. Then it’s just a matter of making sure you are pointing in the right direction. It takes a lot of fuel though - they use most of it on launch – the rockets are heavy because they carry so much fuel. I think the Soviets used to go with less fuel and lighter rockets. RyanAir may adopt a similar principle. It’s not rocket science... Reply |

I don’t see NASA as some big government department, hell bent on cover ups and conspiracies to mislead the public. Although saying that, Im not as enthusiastic about it as I thought Id be, as I did love Apollo 13… Reply |
