I guess you missed the July 4th 2024 election, but Scotland has the government it voted for now. I guess you also missed the Tony Blair/Gordon Brown years. Reply |
22. Author: DBP Date: Mon 14th Oct 2024. 17:54 So based on the question at hand, are you saying Tony Blair wouldn’t have been in power if Scotland hadn’t voted for Labour? PS don’t think I’ve ever moaned about 1707, but feel free to show me a post where I have and I’ll happily apologise Post Edited (Mon 14 Oct 17:58) Reply |
23. Author: jake89 Date: Mon 14th Oct 2024. 18:05 Classic dafc.net to have such petty posts on a thread about a mans passing. This isn`t the thread for pathetic fishing attempts and gutter level debate on independence. Reply |
24. Author: Tad Allagash Date: Mon 14th Oct 2024. 19:10 DBP, The 1707 reference was aimed at Wee Eck (who mentioned it in consecutive posts) rather than yourself. Regarding Tony Blair, I’m just saying Scotland voted for him 3 times and got him 3 times. Scotland voted for Keir Starmer and we’ve got him. But apparently it’s not enough for Scotland to get the government it voted for, we need England to not get what it voted for - Nat logic. Jake, It seems natural that a thread about Alex Salmond might touch upon the issue to which he devoted his life. It’s what he would’ve wanted. Reply |

27. Author: wee eck Date: Mon 14th Oct 2024. 20:38 You`ve used `we` in your posts so presumably you know who you meant. Reply |
28. Author: DBP Date: Mon 14th Oct 2024. 20:59 So you’ve given examples of where we got the government we voted, not because we voted for them per se, but because our choice happened to agree with the choice made by England/Wales (which we would have gotten even if we voted differently) Reply |
29. Author: Tad Allagash Date: Mon 14th Oct 2024. 21:00 No, I used ‘it’ to refer to both Scotland and England. I would have used the traditional she/her pronouns, but I’m not sure if you’re allowed to assume the gender of a place or a ship nowadays. So I went for the woke non-binary ‘it’. Reply |
30. Author: wee eck Date: Mon 14th Oct 2024. 21:23 So what did you mean when you wrote `Scotland voted for Keir Starmer and we`ve got him`? Reply |
31. Author: Tad Allagash Date: Mon 14th Oct 2024. 21:32 wee eck wrote: > So what did you mean when you wrote `Scotland voted for Keir > Starmer and we`ve got him`? The whole of the UK has got Keir Starmer as their PM. So you can take that ‘we’ to mean Brits, Scots, Fifers, Pars Fans, whoever. Reply |

35. Author: OzPar Date: Tue 15th Oct 2024. 23:53 Wow! That is a powerful, well-written article. And the message could not be more explicit. Salmond was flawed, but those who brought him down were political pygmies in comparison. Reply |
36. Author: Parboiled Date: Wed 16th Oct 2024. 14:11 Salmond was a very bitter loser in 2014, and his depiction of the mob intimidation of BBC staff as joyous was pathetic. As for his oratorical skills during the Indy battle ,the only notable speech was Gordon Brown’s unscripted tub thumper on the eve of the vote… Reply |
