Why not say if you are wanting to live in Britain and work for the better of your family and pay into the British economy then that’s great..as long as you go through the working visa route… if you come into Britain illegally you cannot claim any benefits and that’s it. No money/hotels or free NHS. Surely this will stop the influx of illegals coming over as they know there is nothing to be gained?
Then once that is done let’s look after our own British people who have problems like ones that can’t afford food but are still working(folk working and still having to go to food banks is an embarrassment to our government and should be ashamed of themselves)..help our homeless and veterans that served the country and have nothing but memories of war…We need to look after our own country first.
Bring back the 2 child benefit rule as that will stop folk on benefits having a 3rd or say a spouse must have full time job to claim for a 3rd child?
The benefit system is costing Billions a year with folk on the sick that are faking illness and working on the side..
But hey ho as Buffy the lefty said I’m a racist..maybe it’s I’m just trying to look out for my son/daughter who will be having to go through this in 5 years time…thank god I lived my younger years in the 90’s…that was a great time!

There`s a difference between illegal immigrants and folk taking advantage of the asylum process.

How much in benefits are illegal immigrants costing? And you can`t tell whether someone is a failed asylum seeker until that process has concluded.

Illegal immigrants (not to be confused with asylum seekers) will come here regardless. They will always be entitled to claim support once here, as they can in pretty much any country. The issue I have with someone here illegally is that the process to review their case is ridiculous. We should have proper processing centres rather than lining the pockets of hotel chains.

Proper processing centres with plain accommodation and food should be deterrent enough.

Caps on children are stupid. We already have an aging population as a result of low birth rates because people can`t afford to raise children. Why would we want to discourage breeding? Who do pensioners think is paying their pensions, care and free bus passes? Yes, they may have worked their whole lives but they`re now living too long and there aren`t enough young workers to pay for them. This is even more true in Scotland thanks to a lot of young people leaving for jobs while pensioners come here to retire.

What would happen in Hoolies scenario of both parents lost their jobs after having 3 or 4 kids? Do the two extra get taken away until at least one is work again? 😂

There are no simple answers to these things, but going after illegal immigrants and benefits cheats will not solve issues in this country. They are the top of the iceberg. Tax fraud and avoidance is a bigger issue (and cost!) and if you`re obsessed with benefits, maybe ask why companies like Costa cap workers hours to ensure they can claim UC. Maybe also query how much landlords are making from housing benefit due to the lack of council housing.

"How scarce were the elderly in the British past?"
"Today those aged 60 and over make up slightly more than 1 in 5 of the UK population. It is tempting to believe that in the distant past, because there were fewer older people, they enjoyed a greater cachet."

So 1 in 5 over 60 in 2020.

"An Ageing Population": 1978 by Vida Carver and Penny Liddiard, Open University Press.
"At the beginning of this century (the 20th century, so from 1901) approximately 7% (of the UK) is 60 or more, today the proportion is 20%"

So 20% over 60 in 1978.

I think this "bro trust me" narrative of the "we have an ageing population" deserves some further scrutiny.

And that`s before we get to the discussion of age versus are we living healthier discussion or what is burdening the NHS now compared to 50 years ago.

From ChatGPT:

Average age in the UK in 2000 - 37.7 years

Average age in the UK in 2010 - 39.7 years

Average age in the UK in 2025 - 40.1 years

It may have slowed recently, but the age of the nation is increasing every year. Estimates say this year will increase to over 41 years.

Sadly, Bletchley, you`re only telling part of the story and selecting particular figures to suit your narrative. Fertility rate (number of babies being born) continues to drop with parents choosing to have their kids later and later. At the same time, people are living longer (unless you live in Glasgow or Dundee). Fewer kids + aging population = unsustainable tax model.

20 years ago it was more like 1 in 6 over 65, it`s now 1 in 5 as you state.

Every year the social care budget has to go up, and that`s with carers being paid the same as a supermarket worker (that`s nothing against supermarket workers but I know which one I`d rather do!). Strangely enough, that 1 in 5 figure comes up again as around 1 in 5 care workers are foreign born. Guess what happens when you start discouraging foreign workers from coming here? The slack is picked up by all those patriots whose jobs were "stolen", right? 🙄

Well well Jake and I can relate to you on this. My wife is a carer and loves her job but the pressure is unbelievable with how many visits she has in a shift and it’s not proper caring now. Plus she has to deal with younger people with mental health problems etc….That is not her duties paid on £16 an hour tbh?

People like your wife don`t get enough credit. There`s always a willing to pay carers more (as they deserve!) but there`s not enough money in the sector to cover it and there`s only so long you can rely on the goodwill of carers.

Liking this Restore party splitting the vote of the far right. The fact that the bookies have now made Labour favourites to win the most seats at the next general election is pleasing.

And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

87par has to be trolling. Nobody can be that thick and ignorant surely ?

If He/She really wants change, significant change, then voting for parties that are controlled by the invisible and powerful elite is not going to change a single thing.

The only significant change Scotland can get is by becoming an independent country…

Nah not trolling. Just got a different opinion from you. Is that ok?

Everyone is entitled to express their opinion, including their opinion of you.

I think a lot of the problems is the use of the word immigrant. If people from other countries want to come over and work/pay their way and help the economy then that’s great and I hope they live many years in Britain.
It’s the Illegal immigrants that have come over and getting put up in hotels etc that is annoying British hard working people imo. It’s the billions that have been spent on them getting housed/healthcare and benefits and our own British people are struggling.
But to be honest I think the government has broken Britain and it can’t be fixed and there will be civil unrest on the streets in a years time between gangs/religions.
I like what Rupert Lowe/Farage has to say but the whole lot of them and that includes that wee rocket Starmer are all liars. Mind you the Tory lass is a good watch when she tears Starmer apart in the commons.
As for SNP I think it will take a full overhaul getting rid off the deadwood after what Nippy Nicky and her husband did.

One look at the Dunfermline Press Facebook will show that many people think otherwise. The recent opening of Good Burger is an example. People commenting that it`s run by rhyming slang for a racial slur. Same with comments about any vacant land being made in mosques. Legal or illegal, the racists are out there being *****.

Jake, i`m curious, it`s undeniable that a number of rapes and murders have been committed by people entering thd country illegally and put up in hotels, as seen recently in Edinburgh.
Would you lecture the victims on inclusivity or allow them their fear, disdain etc?

I don`t wanna go down like disco.

Can you provide data on that DW?

And why would I lecture victims? Blame the perpetrator, not their race or religion. The question I posed on the other thread is why the guy in Edinburgh wasn`t identified as dangerous? Why aren`t people entering this country being properly processed? The fact he was identified as "23" says it all.

It`s quite simple - you can`t tar everyone with the same brush. Not every Pakistani man is a rapist or paedophile. If we want to go down that route then every Scotsman is a knife wielding alcoholic wife beater.
