That`s a good win. Morton had slightly the better of a scrappy first half and we had the better of the second half.

Kane coming on obviously made a huge difference, but I hope people also noted the change in Lewis McCann from then on. He was allowed to be the bustling, aggressive forward that he can be good at playing, and did really well to force that space and play the ball in for the equaliser.

The winner was beautiful - great centre forward play from Kane to do enough to get the better of the defender without it being enough for the ref to give a foul. And a great finish from there when he got the ball at his feet.

We were more direct today which was a welcome change, though in truth it wasn`t much more coherent than the other style until the changes later on. With Kane and McCann on the park together, there probably is a credible direct option but without either there doesn`t seem to be one.

I`m 50/50 on the sending off. I`m pretty sure he got the ball pretty cleanly but was it one of those where the ref is justified in giving a free kick even if the player does win the ball? Maybe. If he gives a foul there, he has to go.

The reaction to the sub seemed a bit weird to me. Young hadn`t really been in the game much so I didn`t have any problem with it. Unless he was going to play wide there wasn`t much point in him staying on.

Well done to the defenders who finished the game and did enough to get us the win. Morton were very poor in the second half, but even when we were a man short we didn`t really look like giving it away. Chris Hamilton has had a tough time recently, so really pleased to see him play so well at centre half when he came on and make a big contribution to his team winning the game.

I`m also pleased for the manager. I`ve been pretty critical of him recently, but his main job is to get a few non-beautiful wins and he managed that today. His team showed a lot of determination to get through a tough game and get the points and that`ll do for me.

Exactly, Yeboah was out wide and pretty ineffective, Young was through the middle and anonymous.

Seemed sensible to me that if Kane was coming on, Young was the one to go.

McCann and Stevens wide with Young and Kane through the middle seemed the obvious change. Not only was Yeboah ineffective, Morton were ignoring him meaning that they were able to double up elsewhere. Young has been treated pretty poorly overall I`d say. He`s seen Yeboah in particular start ahead of him in games and been taken off before Yeboah in others. Unless there`s some kind of "must play" clause, that makes no sense to me. Not only does Young look more intelligent, a better finisher and a willing presser, he`s our player who we have invested in.

I`m not a fan of Yeboah but Young did nothing to warrant staying on either.

Yeboah did almost score from outside the box just before the substitution was made and linked up a bit better with Andre as the 2nd half progressed.

Oakley-Boothe needs a rocket up him. Strolling around in the midfield when we were up against it, there is a player in there but he’s to casual/laid back in his play not quick nor decisive enough.

Totally agree with this. Needs to work a lot harder for his team mates. I lost count of the number of times he should have been taking up better positions or giving players around him a chance to find him. Or driving forward with the ball instead of laying off a safe pass. Was like a man short at times.

I have not been for a few weeks to east end because I don`t like driving in the dark so much now as it takes me about 1 hour to get home. Anyway the first half we looked like a team hurriedly assembled and we struggled to link up. The second half was much the same until Kane came on and it was not only McCann who got a lift but I thought the whole team started to believe we could get something out of this game and this belief increased after Kane scored his first goal. It was a shame Bene was sent off but we held on and the players that came on did really well especially Hamilton, thought the newest signing from St Johnstone did well also. So well done Pars you showed today you can fight to get a result so although we are not playing that well if we all work our socks of you can often get a result with hard work and commitment.

Agree on Oakley-boothe, seems to have lost the hunger alongside a possible attitude problem which is why he’s working his way back down from a better standard of football.

He’d run riot in this league if he felt like it. When he goes missing it’s like we’re a man down.

McCann gave us the 1 in 6 good performance today, if we can squeeze the same out of him another 3-4 times this season and keep Kane fit we can get out of this.

Will be some surprise results as the top 3 feel the heat in the battle to go up, hopefully we can pick up some unexpected results

A word too for Chris Hamilton who didn`t put a foot wrong after coming on. Fogarty was fine too. Definitely an argument that Benedictus was needing dropped anyway. Will see how we fare without him next week (we can possibly appeal the red card but I can`t see it being overturned).

It absolutely will be overturned

Just seen a video. Never a red card. Can we appeal?

No chance of it getting overturned unless there`s an angle from behind the goals Hunter78. The footage does make it look an awful lot like Benedictus got the ball first as we all thought at the time but it isn`t 100% conclusive. Unless the referee admits he made a mistake then that angle on it`s own won`t be enough.

This was what I would call a “normal” game – sometimes you win, sometime you don`t - not a lot between the sides in terms of quality, but we scored more goals. It should happen a lot more, but we’ve succumbed too easily too often this season which is why we are where we are.

It was certainly a big improvement on Tuesday which was appalling for several reasons:

• The result
• The performance
• MT’s stubbornness in persisting with tactics that haven’t worked
• His inexperience in delivering his post-match comments (which weren’t as bad as I’d feared but nevertheless prompted him to feel the need to apologise)

The injury crisis seems to have lifted a little – MOH and Comrie back, but no sign of Todd, Cooper, KRH or Mehmet. Kane is being treated with kid gloves, with an individual warm-up routine. We even had Clay on the pitch pre-match but he was not needed to fill the bench. Can we assume Hogarth’s emergency loan has been extended? Why have we had so many injuries recently? Did they let their fitness slide under McPake? Are they being trained too hard? Or is just one of those things that happens later in the season?

It looked like a 4-1-2-3 to begin with, but with Otoo lying deep this time and Stevens more central with Oakley-Boothe, meaning McCann started on the right. Young started as principal striker. MT seems to like to make tweaks more in terms of changing the shape and players swapping wings. This was one gripe I had with McPake – he promised us that he wouldn’t leave his striker isolated but that seems exactly what happened more often than not. It may not be the modern way but I like to see striking partnerships.

The standard of the loanees has been mixed (as it was last season). Is the idea to buy in bulk and hope that there is one diamond amongst the dross? Recruitment is not making the case for the power of analytics so far. JCM looks good but he’ll have a tough job next week without Bene alongside. Although it’s arguable Bene’s reduced mobility now outweighs his experience. TOB looks to have time on the ball but doesn’t do anything with it. This could be due to a lack of options. Stevens is good, but there is little end product to date. Again, the lack of movement or expectation may be a problem, although not one that Young will have developed. Raymond came onto a game after an understandably shaky start – he looked better going forward.

I thought that there may have been mixed messages on Tuesday – pussyfoot about at the back (I’m paraphrasing) and create chances. Do what you’re told but take responsibility. It all looked a bit incoherent. So you could almost feel the relief when Tobi hit the first goal-kick down the park. If not belief, this at least gave us hope.

I thought Bene got the ball (and that the player was off-side, although it’s quite possible I’m wrong on the latter as Bene is a bit slow and tends to stand a bit deeper so Is vulnerable to the well-timed run. Kane’s second reminded me of a goal Brewster scored (against Killie, possibly) when I was sure the ref would blow for a foul, but he was simply stronger. Elsewhere, there aren’t a lot of goals in that side. at least we created a few chances this week and showed some desire.

And having messed up setting my stop-watch for the second half, I had only the vaguest of ideas about how long there was left to go at any point, but to be fair, we weren’t clinging on too much.

However, the match does demonstrate that accidents can happen – a freak goal and a dodgy red-card could cost the game, and in a play-off that could be terminal. I’d rather not risk it.

Good summary mccaigs. Indeed the red card for efe was the beginning of the end for us the last time we lost our place in this league.

Agree on the loans, it’s scattergun on players who have never played. A 25% success rate in terms of them having a positive impact must be seen as worth it. I’d wager o’hallaran or KRH would be a better option than yeboah going by what we have seen to date.

We have one more loan slot so here’s hoping a quality midfielder is brought in this week.

as someone mentioned some refs may have given a freekick against Kane leading up to the goal.
Maybe he realised his possible mistake with Bene and let Kanes goal stand .
Im not saying Kanes challenge was a foul ,but maybe in a weird way Benes sending off helped us in the end .

Yeah, believe the SPFL loan window has closed now, barring emergency loans. Can only sign free agents now dependent on when they left their club

I don’t think we’ll see anyone else in and I don’t think we need anyone else.

Team needs to settle and gel. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

I’ve a bit more belief in us now tbh. Hopefully Tidser gets his tactics right more often than not

We won which was great…we can’t rely on an injury prone striker to do everything!
If Kane doesn’t start against Falkirk next week then we are stuffed..we beat a Morton team that on paper are *****….

Mon the Pars!

Which paper`s that? Before the match they were 7 points above us with a game in hand and everyone was saying what a great job Dougie Imrie does with the resources he has. Every time we get a decent result somebody will come on here and say `Aye, but...`.
