Yeah, and it hasn`t been announced on COWS yet. DC also told them another signing was in the pipeline but no details were given.

To complain about some people "booing the players because we weren’t winning at half time" is disingenuous at best. You know perfectly well that people were a bit annoyed because we`d been absolute mince in the first half, rather than because we hadn`t managed to score. Had it been me expressing my annoyance (it wasn`t) I`d have been doing so in response to how the team was set up rather than how well or badly the players did in that setup.

It was back to the worst excesses of passy-passy pihs-pihs and the slowness was obviously deliberate. Time after time we tried to play through them and got nowhere every time. It could have been Peter Grant and Michael Tidser in charge in that first half, and Stirling Albion were entirely comfortable and not troubled by it. They didn`t look like making a mistake because they were never forced to do any real defending and it made for a dire half.

Thankfully, the second half was miles better. It took a while to score but from half-time on we managed to hold some pressure and pretty much ditched the slow and boring stuff completely. If you force a team to defend for long spells, usually chances will come eventually and so it was today. It was a nice finish from Andy Tod after missing an absolute sitter not long before. Their keeper also had a couple of good saves before we scored so we definitely had a decent number of sescond half chances.

In terms of where we are, not really sure. If Gilmour continues as he`s been, he`ll probably end up as my favourite this season - definitely the kind of player I find easy to like. John Tod has been mixed in the games I`ve seen - a lot of good stuff, but sometimes I think he could do with remembering he`s a defender and do the basics first. Given his age, it`s pretty impressive where he is as a player, but I hope we`re not going to be relying on him playing pretty much every game. Up front, it`s still a big concern just how far our level drops when Kane isn`t available.

On Lennon`s 3-4-1-2 shape, I`m not yet convinced. Against Hamilton in particular, when we were getting pulled apart time after time on our right, it looked like we really needed to go to a back 4. Obviously, the lack of a recognised right-back makes that difficult but I`d like us to find a way of playing that if we have to, even if a back 3 is preferred.

Happy new season, all. Hope this one is a bit better than of late.

My biggest concern was how easily we were exposed for the Hamilton goal. Shaw takes it well, but it wasn’t exactly a moment of brilliance that cut us open, just far too soft from us. That was an issue last season loosing too many soft goals. That being said, we never really looked like conceding after that, so credit to the team for tightening up. Just need to stop gifting teams cheap goals.

We have a new keeper as confirmed elsewhere - Mason Munn - or do you mean a third one?

Show me where Mason Munn has signed…..come on, I will wait.

Three wins out of four is a decent return – you would like to score a barrowload of goals, but sometime the luck’s not with you and the opposition make it hard. We managed it under PG and look how that turned out.

The game itself was indeed reminiscent of League 1 – pass, pass, pass in the first half, wear them out, up the tempo in the second half, get ahead then manage the game, possibly scoring a second. When we got the penalty I half-expected them to take it to the corner flag to run down the clock.

Lennon seems to be sticking rather too rigidly to his favoured shape – 3-4-1-2 or whatever. Whether he feels Bene needs 2 alongside him now I don’t know, but it does feel a little limiting and there are oval pegs being forced into round holes, particularly up front.

Otoo isn’t really a LWB for me – he seems too one-footed and therefore predictable – mostly he goes down the line or passes back. I think he needs to cut inside onto his right more, and to be fair, he seems to be trying to add that to his game. Kearney again started well, but again seemed to fall out of the game but it`s early days for him. Hamilton seems to have reinvented himself as a CAM – I assume that is just temporary – but what has happened to the Sutherland brothers? Injured? Out of favour? Could Hammy do a job at RB if we move to a back 4? Or do we move JCM there?

The main problem seemed to be a disconnect between the forward players and the rest – they make runs, but the pass doesn’t come or comes late, so the runs stop. We are more of a threat from corners however – I would hope for some goals from this source this season.

It’s always difficult to judge substitutes when they come on against a tiring team, but Bray and MacLeod look promising. A good pen from the latter. he took very little time over it – no pause when he got to the end of his run. Did the ref blow his whistle to allow him to take it a bit early? Young could do with a goal to settle him – he seems to be trying too hard. Sometimes competition for places and the additional pressure can inhibit performance rather than encourage it.

Overall, we got a bad draw – Hearts away in the first game was not helpful, nor having five teams getting a bye. We’ll learn a lot more next week.

Matty Todd to RB? Seem to remember him having a good spell there couple of seasons ago or longer, would have the engine for the overlap.

We play with a RWB, so I highly doubt Lennon’s going to shell out for Kearney just to play someone who can’t even get a game in their natural position. I can't see us going away from the system we have now.

Agree cammypar … right side is sorted. I was getting frustrated yesterday though …. Kearney was clearly asked to hog the line and he got so few balls to use his running and crossing ability. Lenny is clearly able to shake it up to a back four if he wants but at this time in the season we need to keep playing the same system to bed everyone, including subs and reserves In to know how to play.

I agree with the comments re Euan Otoo. If he can add that to his game he will improve in that position. He has perhaps suffered by playing in several positions in the past, so maybe NL sees him in that position and will work on his weaknesses

Priorities.
If we have a good side ( right) then another wing sides isn’t so important. Striker of note is the number one priority. And they are in short supply…. We would I think pay for one of those and sacrifice a LWB and CB to get one. Even if it turns out on loan. But it won’t be anyone who has played less than 150 first team games.
