3. Author: Buster_Brown Date: Fri 15th Aug 2025. 18:18 The Airdrie Facebook page (comments) have been speculating about this since the defeat to us last Saturday. Apparently there was a huge fall out between McCabe and a few of the board members. Most/all the comments have been deleted now, which makes the speculation even greater. Reply |

5. Author: wee eck Date: Fri 15th Aug 2025. 18:27 According to the Record - `It is understood McCabe has become increasingly frustrated by the lack of a new striker in the squad. The Diamonds have let a number of key players go this summer, including star striker Ben Wilson for a fee around £200,000, but that hasn`t been reinvested in the playing squad.` Reply |

8. Author: wee eck Date: Mon 18th Aug 2025. 19:01 From the Record - Former Dunfermline boss James McPake is understood to be among the contenders to replace Rhys McCabe at Airdrieonians. The Diamonds are on the hunt for a new gaffer after McCabe stepped down on Friday, citing the desire to spend more time with his family. However, our sister title Lanarkshire Live Sport reported that issues behind the scenes played a major role, with McCabe frustrated with the club`s hierarchy amid a lack of transfer dealings. Club chairman Paul Hetherington is now drawing up a shortlist of candidates to take the reins at New Broomfield. And it`s understood that McPake is one option on the table with the board keen on the former Pars and Dundee boss. Reply |

11. Author: Angus_W Date: Mon 18th Aug 2025. 21:05 McPake is a good manager. He was given a poison chalice last season, no money=no new players. He got us out Div 1 at the first time of asking. Good luck to him if he gets it. ‘Hello my name is Jefferson - I’m happy to be here let’s go!’ Reply |

13. Author: jake89 Date: Mon 18th Aug 2025. 21:56 I`m still of the view there was more to the McPake situation than just a lack of funds. Other clubs have had far less money to spend. I think he made a mistake by essentially spending what money there was on long contracts on players who ended up letting him down. I don`t mean they intentionally let him down but it was obvious we had a team that was knackered through injuries and through having little to no back up meaning no turnaround in players on the pitch. I would guess some players got long contracts in return for lower wage expectations, which is fair enough. While I think he`s a good manager, the issue at Airdrie will be they come out with a new team each season pretty much. Reply |

16. Author: coventrypar Date: Mon 18th Aug 2025. 22:33 Managerial appointments are a big risk unless you can pay for proven results eg Lennon. McPake has had success and failure … both experiences might make him better - but he might not get a chance to show that at the right level again. Seems to me that coaches/assistant managers can rumble on for quite some time. Managers put their b@ws on the block every week. They possibly deserve a bit more grace than we - the average fan - afford them. "If you have no kind words to say you should say nothing more at all" Reply |
