Topic: ARBROATH TONIGHT

A good battling performance , but Arbroath made sure there was going to be no football played tonight, constant niggling fouls that were ignored by the referee, and unlike the 2nd half at EEP , they just played hoof ball, got what they deserved, and we go on.

I think it`s fair to say that, generally, we`re pretty well-organised defensively. 2 hours against Falkirk and 3 hours against Arbroath without conceding a goal and only a few clear-cut chances says it all really.

It was a brutal game, as Arbroath made it brutal. But that performance defensively was brilliant. John Tod was outstanding.

We are through. The games against Partick will be better.

Well done, Pars

Pitches are poor, a little bit of fatigue maybe and one eye on the cup final. I’d take another grind against Thistle if it gets us through

Its about winning now. Performances are for the league campaign. Each game in the playoffs is a cup game. If you have to grind out a result thats what you have to do. Past results are irrelevant. Its the here and now that matters.

Let’s not forget that Partick have failed to beat Arbroath this season.

With 3 draws and Arbroath winning at Partick.

Was a tough game but we found a way.

"Agreed. Thought Fraser had a stinker."

Seconded - his poorest game since he came to the club.

However we know he has the goods - every player has an off day.

Andy Todd also came into that category last night - and Morrison contributed little ............again.

J.Todd was excellent after a wobbly start and the central defence played well - JCM`s goal line clearance was crucial, as was Aston`s penalty save.

Gilmour another sound performance despite being battered and clattered throughout.

It was never going to be about individual performances and players playing to their strengths. Its one of thise games you just have to grind out a result

As the old clichè says, "It wasn`t a game that will live long in the memory" - apart from Aston`s outstanding save from the penalty. As others have said, the important thing is that we`re through to play Partick. They`re beatable and we can play better...

And we had a wee mention on the BBC main sports news with me jumping about like a daftie on national TV at the penalty save 👀🤦‍♂️

I will take another 5 games like last night if we end up with promotion and a Scottish cup in the cabinet. We don’t win that tie a year ago. Team is growing together. Good number up there last night. Now onto Tuesday.

Remember how the rovers bossed us, amongst other teams. Arbroath no exception!
Our youngsters are getting more experience, coping better, adjusting to the opposition, and are in the playoffs and a cup final on merit.

Yeah that wasn`t a game last night for pretty football. Arbroath tried to bully the pars boys out of the game but they stood up to it well.

Arbroath never created a great deal over the 2 legs, the penalty was just a loss of concentration from Fraser compounded by Oxborough being forced to come out and make a decision. What a save from the penalty though, so imposing in the goal, and has come through for us in these big games.

Thistle will be a different proposition and more of a goal threat, hopefully the boys can recover and go again Tuesday.

What a great season it has been to make up for all the farcical ones we`ve endured in recent years at this level.

One big plus for me from these two games is that Charlie Gilmour has discovered that it`s possible to be effective as a midfield `enforcer` without giving away needless fouls and getting booked. I hope he carries it into next season.

It was heartening to hear in their post-match interviews how much Chris Kane and Aston Oxborough are enjoying being at the club. I wonder if Motherwell would be difficult to deal with if we expressed an interest in signing the Ox on a permanent basis? Billy Terrell`s not ready yet to be considered as the regular first-team keeper but he could be a reasonable understudy I think.

I thought it was great turnout from Pars fans, any idea of the numbers who travelled ?
