If the talk of bonuses for detaining people are true then the ICE officers will really be looking forward to the world cup! If FIFA were truly representing their members then they`d be challenging this now. Reply |

| 13. Author: Socks Date: Sun 22nd Feb 2026. 22:43 The Guardian retractions column generally covers pretty trivial details. I`d consider it a positive that they publish any errors found, however trivial, and most of what`s there would never be mentioned by other news outlets making similar errors. To use the fact that this column exists to make it appear that their reporting is unreliable is a nonsense. To illustrate, the list from Friday ( https://www.theguardian.com/news/2026/feb/20/corrections-and-clarificationsis: The Co-op quiche we mentioned in a taste test (The filter, 14 February, Feast, p19) is not made with “caged-hen eggs” as we said. it is made with free-range eggs. The quiche’s rating has been upgraded to four stars, from our published three. An article about Warhammer said the game’s models were made up of “hundreds of pieces”. while the largest may have more than a hundred pieces, many models are made from only a handful (New model army, 19 January, p21). The University of Exeter’s student newspaper is Exeposé, rather than Exposé (Reform’s threat to Bangor Uni is a grim sign of things to come, 13 February, Journal, p1). Reply |

I doubt the Guardian would publish an article such as this illegal arrest without substantive proof. Reply |

| 17. Author: BouncyPar Date: Mon 23rd Feb 2026. 14:03 I hope I`m wrong with this, but I genuinely believe something big will happen during the WC. A player from perhaps Iran, Haiti, Columbia etc will be detained by ICE and deported/held in a detention centre due to a visa mixup. Previously, at any other tournament, any discrepancy over visas would be handled quietly between the organisers and diplomats present. Now tho, there`s the real possibility of watching Iran v Egypt, and the game being interrupted by ICE agents storming the penalty box and detaining the goalie live on tv. Like I say, I hope I`m wrong, but even the fact that there`s the slightest of possibilities it could happen is frightening Reply |
