There really is no substitute for a bit of know how and experience. That was glaringly missing from our starting line up. Yes we did improve significantly second half as far as winning battles in the middle of the park but we really only had a ten minute spell where we looked any kind of threat up top but still never tested their keeper once. Not once the entire match. Rovers were nothing much either to be honest but they knew instinctively the channels to run into and that is the difference. Badly need an experienced striker, can’t rely on Young or Chris 50yrs old calves Kane. Didn’t hear interview as just home from Lino land but we were not “brilliant “ in the second half. Average in second half with a few promising players coming on. Could be a long season ahead..again. Reply |
144. Author: wetherby Date: Fri 22nd Aug 2025. 22:47 With the current squad I think we are good enough to avoid 10th spot but it will be somewhere between 6th to 8th unless we recruit a creative attack minded midfielder, a ccentre forward and another central defender. Reply |
145. Author: Dave_1885 Date: Fri 22nd Aug 2025. 22:51 wetherby, Fri 22 Aug 22:47 We dont need another attacking midfielder, we have about 5 for 1 position. We need strikers to allow us to not need to use them as strikers. Reply |
146. Author: Angus_W Date: Fri 22nd Aug 2025. 22:56 First rule of derbys……… You have to match your opponents aggression & physicality. We didn’t do that in the FH, we got bullied all over the park, the only one with pass marks was Gilmour. There is a team out there but they need to wisen up a bit & develop a bit of attitude or teams will walk all over us. Another shiteshow at Starks Park it’s becoming a bad habit. 147. Author: Connor560 Date: Fri 22nd Aug 2025. 23:06 Not seen us for a while but thought we were really poor. A real lack of quality for long periods probably other than Gilmour who was arguably the only pass mark of the evening. Miles off it without the ball, nothing held up front but in the same sentence we kept playing long high balls to Cooper and Young which is baffling. Overrun in the middle of the park, not enough bravery when we had the ball to play more risky forward passes. Really poor overall C'mon Ye Pars! Reply |
148. Author: king lad Date: Fri 22nd Aug 2025. 23:21 Lennon got the lineup wrong for me, especially the midfield. KRH, Otoo and Oakley-Boothe aren`t good enough to be starters anymore and need dropped asap. JCM is also a total bomb scare right now, I wouldn`t mind seeing Fisher back into the team just to give him a break. The positives are that I think the new players that came on in the 2nd half (and Fraser) looked like massive upgrades on those players mentioned previously. Càceres made some terrific runs and has pace and Kearney was causing them all sorts of bother down the right. Haven`t understood how Amade isn`t playing either. We were second best by some distance on the night, but the referee absolutely bottling a stonewall red card in the first half that injured our player doesn`t help either. Him and the dugout side linesman were horrific. Reply |
149. Author: Buster_Brown Date: Fri 22nd Aug 2025. 23:23 Just home and well done to Raith, they deserved their win. 2 chances and 2 goals, but by Christ we were awful until Kearney, Caceres & Amade came on, and despite playing well, it was too late for Kane. i posted it at Half Time, but the same players that nearly relegated us last season, let us down again today. When I saw the line up, I was worried. I know we have picked up points with that squad, but in both the Morton & Airdrie game we started slowly and rode our luck. Tonight, we started slowly and never recovered from it The backline were awful, but again KRH, TOB, Young and Otoo were posted missing and we were so easy to play against. It was men against boys, with our young team just not handling the occasion of a derby, in front of big crowd and live on the TV and Raith pounced on that. Again, I said it at Half Time but since coming back in the summer, JCM has been a bombscare. He nearly cost us against Hearts, Hamilton & Morton and he did cost us tonight. People will rightly point to the Rovers first goal but he was poor all night. He’s started to believe his own hype, but for me, he needs to buck up his ideas. We’re seeing the player ICT fans warned us about and not the one that played at the tail end of last season. In the 2 previous games, apart from a decent save against Morton, Munn has been untested. His kicking has looked ropey at times but by and large he’s looked “fine” but with question marks. Tonight, he looked like a shocker and there’s real concerns. Warming up, I thought he struggle low down to his right, that’s where both Raith efforts went, and he never got them. Although you’d point the finger at JCM for the 1st, there’s no getting away from the 2nd. There was the poor kicking, clearing out Bene twice and the slowing the game down. I’m really not sure this is going to work out and it’s concerning, especially when Raith, weren’t really hammering our goal for 90 minutes. Talking of questions marks, it really is time to start to question of Young is ready for this level. I get it, we don’t seem to create anything for him, but again, he just looks well off it to me. I’m not saying he’s not going to come good and it goes without saying that I hope he does, but we’ve got to demand better from the players leading the line. From where I was sitting, I can’t believe Stevenson stayed on the park after his foul on Andy Tod. I really hope he is out, as that was a nasty one and not the challenge you would expect from a senior pro. Hope it was just poor judgement on his part, but how the Ref only found a yellow fit is beyond me. Anyway, rant over and time to go away and lick our wounds. Once again we had a shocker at Starks Park and have to take our medicine. I’m angry at the performance but I’m more angry with Neill Lennon. We can all see that Kearney & Amade are improvements on KRH & TOB so why are they not starting? Caceres looks a real player from his spell on the pitch so I look forward to seeing more from him. Ah well, onto Ross County now….great! Reply |

151. Author: Swifty Date: Fri 22nd Aug 2025. 23:31 Just back from the game and very disappointed with our efforts tonight. We were particularly poor in the 1st half. To ship a goal after 2 minutes gave the Rovers the boost required to boss the game. We lost a similar goal at Tynecastle? I don’t think the Rovers got the ball down to pass it. They seemed to be content bypassing the midfield and utilizing a long ball to expose Bene’s lack of pace. Much better 2nd half when we made changes. Amade should be the first name on the team sheet. Jefferson (Paddy), looks like he can be a player for us. We had a few chances and a penalty claim that was denied. I think it is too early to panic and suggest we are in for a long hard season. I’m not going to criticize any particular player, there was not a lot of pass marks in the 1st half. We certainly need a couple of experienced professionals to help our game management. Finally should also the yellow card challenge on Andy Todd should have been a straight red card. Here’s hoping we get a good response next Saturday - COYP Reply |
152. Author: Never10yairds Date: Fri 22nd Aug 2025. 23:35 Nothing I can say that hasn’t already been said really. I’m a big fan of Lennon but he got the team completely wrong tonight and I told my mates that as soon as it was announced, knew we were in for a rough night. Spineless performance. Back to Tidserball and the horseshoe of death all first half, passing it around without ever troubling the opponent. As soon as we tried to deviate from the hotshot we lost it. Couldn’t make anything positive happen. Gilmour is the only starter who had a good game. KRH should be dropped for Kearney. TOB should be dropped. Worst game JCM has had in a pars jersey by quite some margin. We badly need to sign at least one striker. Second half performance was better but we still weren’t good enough then either. We didn’t really create anything until very late on. Reply |
153. Author: DunPar Date: Sat 23rd Aug 2025. 00:33 FFS people. We’ve got a really young team that isn’t quite the finished article and we’ve got a new manager that has proven success in what he does. He’s trying to instill a bit of positiveness to the team but that’s not an attitude that many people on here apparently have any idea about. We’re possibly in the best situation we’ve been in for 20 years with a bit of investment and a good manager looking to build a team of younger players rather than has-been journeymen. Let’s get behind the team and the club and back them in what they’re trying to do. Reply |
154. Author: Never10yairds Date: Sat 23rd Aug 2025. 00:39 Dun Par, I’m all for the investment and what the new owners are trying to do. I’m all for Lennon too. I’m sure that is true for the vast majority of posters on here. That doesn’t mean we should suspend reality or any form of critical analysis though. That was utter p1$# tonight and anyone who says otherwise is utterly delusional. I’m still very optimistic about where the club is headed in the long run but there will be bumps in the road, mistakes to be learned from and ruthless decisions to be made to get us where we want to be. Tonight was a reality check on all of that. Reply |
155. Author: DNCH Date: Sat 23rd Aug 2025. 00:52 I see this the way Lennon does. In the second half we were positive in possession, aggressive and trying to make things happen. It felt like we were knocking on the door before the second goal which was fluffed hit that the keeper really needed to do better with. That just snuffed the life out of us. Not to mention the Stevenson tackle was a red card every day of the week so Rovers should`ve been playing with 10 men for 75 minutes. What was glaring to me is the gap between our midfield and Connor Young who worked really hard but was feeding on scraps. Young looks a player to me but he needs that first goal to really fire him up. I hope Lennon keeps starting him, even with Kane being fit. KRH in the wing-back position didn`t look totally sure of what his job was meant to be but I`d like to see him in more advanced positions. All in all, I think we look like a much better team than the past 2 seasons and these young guys are so promising. If we can sprinkle in some experience we`ll be right up there. Final point. I`ll be completely unsurprised if John Tod is playing international football some day. Reply |
156. Author: wee eck Date: Sat 23rd Aug 2025. 00:57 What was the TV commentary team`s take on Stevenson`s challenge on A Tod? PS Some strange scores in the players` ratings on the BBC Sport match report! Easton was MOM with 8.63 which was fair enough but their keeper was joint second with Vaughan on 8.5. A Tod was our highest-rated player with 7.43 despite only being on the field for 23 minutes! Post Edited (Sat 23 Aug 01:07) Reply |

158. Author: DNCH Date: Sat 23rd Aug 2025. 01:20 I had to watch on Rovers TV over here. Every other Friday night game has been on CBS in the States but this wasn`t for some reason. @wee_eck: At the time the Rovers commentators (who weren`t bad by the way) thought it was a harsh yellow on Stevenson but also said they don`t actually get to see the replays. They replaced the co-commentator at half time for whatever reason and the guy who joined for the second half immediately said that Stevenson was lucky not to be red carded and probably would`ve been with VAR. What was weird was the Rovers commentators spoke of Lewis Vaughan like he`s some player who haunts the Pars. Maybe I`ve missed some of the local stuff living away but I don`t care or think about Vaughan ever. He could score 100 goals against us in the next 3 seasons I`d still be more worried about facing Craig Dargo. Reply |

160. Author: PARrot Date: Sat 23rd Aug 2025. 01:57 Rigger Al, Fri 22 Aug 22:07 The best fans in the Championship will do their usual hatchet job, lacking the capacity to understand the importance of a good manager trying to lift his young team after a defeat. That was a big lesson for a newly formed young squad v a team of seasoned journeymen who have played together in this league for several years now. Reply |
