I would take my time and cast a wide net across the continent and appoint an interim manager for Nations League if necessary while we find the best person for the job.

I think we all recognise that whether or not Clarke had stayed in post, a major rebuild of the team is needed - it`s been a bridge too far for the present squad.

One problem is that unless we are fantastically lucky (and with Scotland`s history that is unlikely) the younger players coming in will pick up a string of defeats, which would see us tumble down the FIFA ratings and make it even more difficult for future qualifications.

Moyes style is worse than Clarkes - the TA will hate that. Will be another case of Death by Social Media.

Postecoglou won`t have enough coaching time to implement the style he wants successfully.

I`d maybe look at someone like Thomas Frank.

I have heard a name though from someone in the ranks of who the SFA really admite and if it is that person, it`s not going to go down well at all.

C'mon Ye Pars!

Think Clarke and sfa assumed we would qualify hence his extension, failed along with media Anger, and he realised it`s time to go
Now we need sfa and spfl to get a grip and improve things

Remember Michael O’Neill turned us down before Clarke got the job. We’ll struggle to attract any big names.

It’s going to be a big rebuild for whoever comes in.

He’s not built for the future. Hickey at 23 and Doak at 20, are by far our youngest players with any minutes behind them.

it reminds me of when Ferguson bowed out at Man U

Ange and Moyes won`t be interested, as both could get jobs of a much higher calibre. It`s a real predicament for the SFA as to where we go from here.

Clarke did what was asked of him, which was to qualify for tournaments, and the SFA welcomed the financial boost that qualification brought.

As a Scotland fan for many years, I just don`t think we`re capable of playing the exciting, attacking football that so many seem to crave.

With a squad in which many players have probably played their last major tournament, and an Under 21 side that can`t even qualify for major tournaments, I look to the future of the national team with a great deal of scepticism.

I think we`ve had our time, and I fear we could be heading back to the years before Clarke, when failing to qualify for tournaments became the norm.

This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it.

I have a horrible feeling it’s Malky McKay.

Lennon would be a decent appointment. Although it would be crap for us.

One of the big criticisms I have of Clarke is his slowness to make changes during games. Lennon does try to make tactical changes quickly if something obviously isn`t working.

If non-Scots are to be considered, I’ll throw a name out there: Graham Arnold.

He somehow guided Iraq to this year’s WC, has previously gotten Oz out the groups to the round of 16, and has had a very successful club management career.

As someone who has watched both Ange’s and Arnie’s teams here in the A-League, I think Arnie is slightly the better coach. My 2c worth.

I don`t imagine it`s remotely likely to be any fantasy football managers like Ange, Frank, etc.

Given Moyes` comments on the current squad capabilities and the lack of talent coming through there is no way I see him packing in a PL job for Scotland.

You`d like to think that the SFA would know the reaction of the fans if they even think a Malky McKay type appointment.

Lennon will be purely football forum talk. Whilst he`s close to our hearts just now with the Pars connection can you imagine the reaction from the other side of Glasgow? SFA would need to be crackers.

So who? Not a scooby. Darren Fletcher?

Scottish football will always be in the doldrums while everything is controlled by two clubs and people who will bend over backwards to ensure those two clubs are protected.

I could not agree more, until a more fairer league set up and distribution of funds in achieved we will always be the whipping boys internationally. Domestically the top league is only a cartel, nothing to do with football excellence, only there to promote as much old firm hate fests as possible.

^^^ The league format needs complete over-haul and the SPL and SFA need incentives to play and promote Scottish players.

An AI search shows that the Pars have 73% of their players are Scottish whilst Celtic have 3 and Rangers 2 and this needs addressed.

Additionally there are 20+ Scots in the EPL and 8 in the Italian League.

The Scottish premiership needs expanding to 20 to allow smaller teams more opportunity to play at a more competitive level.

The old firm monopoly need to be broken.

If he wasn’t manager of my club, I would probably be all for this. He’s exactly the type of person that we need and he can adapt with the players he has. Lennon would be ideal….but I’m not ready to lose him yet!

If the Scottish Premiership was more competitive would it be likely to produce better quality players? Most leagues in Europe are dominated by two or, at most three, clubs and they seem to produce more international class players than we do.

We do seem to recruit an awful lot of players from abroad now but are they hindering the development of the top Scottish youngsters? Won`t the cream still rise to the top? Some of the best Scots seem to get picked up early by Engish or maybe even continental clubs but isn`t this likely to help them develop rather than hinder them?

This situation`s been the same for years and we`ve never got to the bottom of it. There`s also the argument that Scottish kids are less active and spend more time on compuetrs and other devices but are they really any different from kids all over the world?

I do find it odd that clubs like ours no longer have a competitive reserve team. The need to have a 20-man first team matchday squad probably means having a full squad of at least 25 but there`s no way they`re all going to get regular game time. The whole syatem seems crazy.
