Not convinced those who helped boot him out undestand how long that is. Those of us over 70 who were lucky enough to get to tournaments almost ever 4 years do. Reply

They`re getting no credit for appointing SC at a time when we hadn`t qualified for a major tournament for over 20 years and he managed it 3 times in 7 years. Reply

If your strength is getting the ball up top rather than the PEP playing out from the back then get it up the pitch? At least it’s in the opposition half and work from there… Spot on! Even tho they didn`t make it to the finals , both Wales and Ireland play a quicker , more attacking style of fitba than us , and i`m sure would have made more of an impression in the finals than we did if they`d had the same luck (yes luck) in qualification that we did . Clarke has taken Killie to 3rd place in the Premier League, been appointed to the Scotland job, qualified for 3 tournaments and resigned - all since Ireland last qualified for anything. Not sure they`ll be quite as smug about their style of play in comparison to ours. It’s also interesting to see that when Clarke took over as manager Scotland were 44th in the FIFA ranking. We came into this WC at 42nd. Seems to suggest we have basically stood still this past 7 years! Reply

Those of us over 70 who were lucky enough to get to tournaments almost ever 4 years do. Can`t argue with his record, but he`s had a pretty solid set of players so was it all to do with his coaching? Could another manager have done better? The squad certainly could have done better and, as has been said for years, we need to be developing players. What are the SFA and Scottish Government doing to encourage more kids into sport? How could the SFA and SPFL improve competition in the Scottish leagues given most prospective Scotland players will start at their local club or regional academy? Quite a few of them current crop of players won`t see the next world cup so who is coming in to replace them? It`s great to see the likes of Tod getting a chance to train with the Scotland team but what else is being done to encourage and developer Scottish players? Finally, how can we chuck Celtic and Rangers out of Scotland? No doubt Rangers will ruin Shankland and he`ll end up at a run of the mill English championship team. Reply
98. Author: USMac Date: Mon 29th Jun 2026. 23:53 Who figured out how to use McTominay in an attacking role? Who figured out how to use Robertson and Tierney at the same time? Clarke got the most from this group of players. Scotland was hosed at the WC draw, having to play 3 non-Euro teams, all of which are comfortable in hot and humid weather and 2 in the top 10. Also, drawn to play Haiti first didn’t help — unlike Senegal, which got to play Iraq after playing France and Norway. The odds of Scotland getting to 4 pts were very long. And yet they almost did it against Morocco, except we were undone by the ref who called fouls only if the defender didn’t attempt to play the ball. Clarke and the players did as well as could be expected. Reply

Your right Scotland are blessed with international level attacking players..... 3 tournament finals out of 4. This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it. Reply
