I wonder if there would have been a similar response if the girl had been sexually assaulted by two boys of Irish descent, and if not, why not?

FWIW GG from what I`ve seen these were initially meant as protection elements.

Non-rioting locals were trying to use UJ to protect their homes and non-Romanian residents were trying to distance themselves(naively IMO)from the riots by declaring their nationality give the initial spark seemed against Romanians.

I don`t think that was a good idea as it seems inevitably the racism would expand beyond one nationality, but if your obviously not native I can see why it seemed like a worthwhile desperate idea.

The misinformation displayed here by some posters repeating the MSM disinformation about the unrest in Ballymena is exactly what has led to the nights of violence we have seen there.

The alleged issues have not been caused by Romanians, but by Roma gypsies from Romania and Bulgaria. The origin of word "Roma" has nothing to do with Romania which seems to have confused some on here.

There have been multiple alleged sexual attacks linked to this group as well as alleged drug dealing and alleged prostitution and sex trafficking.

The things these Roma have been accused of in Ballymena are also leveled at Roma communities in both Romania and Bulgaria.

The latest incident which involved a 13 year old girl being allegedly lured by two 14 year olds to a house with a garage where she was allegedly sexually assaulted by an older man in this garage that had nothing but a mattress on the floor.

I have seen video of the young 13 year old alleged victim`s father speak, he is a black gentleman.

While this latest incident seems to have been the tipping point, the anger has been building for years with similar alleged incidents happening multiple times and anyone highlighting them called all the ists and ismims and ignored by police and politicians for fear of being branded "racist". A rather similar story that will no doubt be revealed in the upcoming grooming gangs inquiry.

I condemn the violence that we have seen in this town over the last few nights and I can also recognise the feeling of helplessness and being ignored by authorities.

Ah, cheers, pars4life. I seem to have got hold of the wrong end of the stick if what you`ve posted is correct. Like you say, if these notices were put up by the residents in these houses, it was very naive, but perfectly understandable.

Still and all, it`s a very regrettable situation. The behaviour of some folk in Ballymena is indefensible.

It is a concern that people are afraid of calling out factual incidentsof abuse for the fears you correctly highlighted.

That doesnt excuse actial racism though.
The rise of the far right and racism is enabled by the fears of the ignorant.

Yes, the mice were "transgenic", hardly surprising when most lab mice are, they contain the genetic material of other animals.
