Being an ex-player probably affords you some good will for a short period of time, but it takes seriously good management skills to guide teams to that amount of sustained success Reply |

In his first year at Celtic he lost the title to Rangers and the following year Rangers were liquidated. The next season the top 4 was Celtic, Motherwell,St Johnstone and ICT. Motherwell were then runners up again the following season, followed by Aberdeen the next. You would be expecting him to win the league there every season with no real competition at the time. He went to Bolton on a 4 year deal and lasted less than a year and a half before being fired, they were ultimately relegated finishing 24th. He won 18 of 79 games. He took a Hibs team with the likes of John McGinn, Martin Boyle, Jason Cummings, Andrew Shinnie,Kris Commons and Brian Graham to the Championship title. They accumulated 1 point more than Alan Stubbs had for them the previous season when they were denied by Rangers. He undoubtedly did a decent job there before he was suspended for disciplinary reasons and left. He went back to Celtic and won the title in the shortened COVID season but when going for their 10th title in row the next season they lost by 25 points and it was the first time they didn`t win a single trophy since 2010. I`m not sure when they previously lost the title by such a margin. He has an inferior win record to almost all recent Celtic managers and he didn`t have Rangers to contend with for the majority of the time. He went to Cyprus on a 2 and a half year deal to Omonia, where Henning Berg had previously won the league and he did win the cup against lower league opposition on penalties but was fired less than 6 months into the contract. Finally he went to Romania on a 2 year deal and lasted 3 months before being sacked without winning a game. Every time he has been handed out a long deal he seems to be gone within no time. I look forward to seeing what he can do and I`ll judge him based on what I see on the park rather than what has gone previously. I don`t buy into some of the hyperbole.
