Angus Gunn injury last night has shown why players will also want to get deals wrapped up fast - he could be out for months and may be without a club till Jan for all he knows. I think that anguish was shown on his face last night knowing it could hinder him getting a club now.

Also, the window may have just opened, but you can sign players whenever you want.

It might be a step to far but maybe we could do him a favour and offer him a contract? Maybe just a 1 year one to see how he gets on?

The window has just opened for goodness sake. It will remain open for almost another 2 months.

Stop the whinging and have a bit of patience.

This…100% this!!!

I’m happy enough to be patient for now. As long as we get the quality players we need in for the first league game I will be happy. I do understand the concern and lack of patience from some after the shambolic transfer windows we had last season.

If we want to compete for the title I think we need to bring 6 or 7 players into the squad, who are all going to be good enough to start, over and above what we already have signed.

Ideally we would sign the players in time for the beginning of the pre-season training and friendly matches etc. That will hopefully give them time to gel and get up to full match fitness etc. Otherwise, we may be in for another underwhelming start to the season.

In for preseason would be ideal Neil but the reality of our position is that the better players we are targeting will likely be holding off a bit for an offer from an SPL side or a lucrative offer from down south. That means you won’t get them until later unless you throw silly cash at them to get them in the door quicker.

Weren`t we quite quick off the mark last season, signing Kane, Wotherspoon and Ngwenya pretty early, but there was then a pause and it became known that the German owners had `frozen` James McPake`s budget?

I would hope that we wouldn`t mess around with contract offers. Once an offer is on the table, you would expect a time limit to accept may 7 days or so. The system should work in the benefit of the club and the clubs timescales ie you want players in the door when you need them, not when a player mulls over what`s best for them weighing up several options over several weeks. If that what they tend to do, I`m not sure it`s the type of player we need at the moment.

I don’t think the midfield is that far off it. Couple of new faces, a bit of width especially on the left and we’ll be golden. I think the reason I was frustrated with the likes of Chalmers is I could see the player there, he only played well 1 in 10 games tho. A fit Todd is a real asset. Hammy gives everything, every week. I’m unsure about Oakley Booth. He looks class in flashes, maybe a bit of confidence and stability around about him and he’ll improve his consistency? 🤷🏻‍♂️

I think we need someone else in central midfield that can move the ball with purpose and we need a couple that can play wide but at the very least we know we can keep it narrow and be hard to beat without the ball.

Of course I’m eager to see who will come in but given how poor we’ve been in the last few transfer windows I’ve got that rattling in the back of my brain. Need to remind myself to keep the faith

I know quality will be brought in but struggling to understand why we need so many in our squad who have already struggled at this level in particular in a problem area in the centre of park, makes you worry we won’t bring in 2-3 quality midfielders!

NMC how do you know a fit Todd is a real asset at this level? He was fit for spells last season and was very poor.

Midfield isn’t far off it….really?

Like someone else said Todd had had a few good games when fit, mostly first season back up, last season when fit he was ineffective and subbed in games.

Hammy give everything, every week….I`ve posted in numerous threads my thoughts on that, you need more than just effort and love for the club. Actually being a good player comes into it.

Tash, not for me.

We’ve resigned or still have a lot of midfielders from last season and at the moment we don’t have a decent partnership in amongst the squad. We need some proper quality in there who can pick passes and make things happen.

We don’t need to be keeping it narrow and hard to beat, we need to be attacking teams and playing entertaining stuff for the fans.

Yes, Matthew Todd has bulked up a bit since Division One days. If he keeps free from injury this season and gets a decent run, I expect him to do well. He has shown flashes of real skill in vital games, in the last few seasons. He does have game changing ability. Maybe the new manager can get the best out of him.

I think NL will bring a higher standard expected from our current players ,He will not accept passengers ,and he will for sure bring in his own type of player using his contacts
