It puts their character at stake alongside the merits of any proposal preceeding this statement. Questioning the argument risks looking as though you are uncaring. Politicians use this emotive language alot. The sheer hypocricy of Burnham thanking Starmer and Reeves after plotting their downfall is incredible.
