It`s easy pickings for Premiership sides or lower leagues in England that can spend significantly more than the Pars can and offer a higher level of football which is enticing. Can`t blame Matty at all, his stock has probably never been higher and you don`t know if he`ll get another chance at going up a level. I`m sure it was a really tough decision for him but sometimes this is what happens in football. I really felt he could`ve been a player that could`ve spent his entire career with us, but it wasn`t to be. Best of luck Matty, go and smash it. Reply |
| 63. Author: neilholland999 Date: Wed 27th May 2026. 20:53 Swisspar, Wed 27 May 20:01 A club like ours simply doesn`t have the cash reserves to give all our players really long term deals. If we need to terminate their contracts (for whatever reason) then we could be left with some significant financial liabilites. Reply |
| 64. Author: neils Date: Wed 27th May 2026. 20:59 No one can tie anyone to a contract they don`t want We already have signed up a number of players on 3 and even 4 year deals- how much longer do you want the club to be exposed for? These are just the breaks, we and other clubs will always lose players on frees, just as we sign good players on frees. At what point would you have offered Ngwenya a 5 year contract for example? No one could predict how he would improve. Ditto Matty Todd, he was as out of the picture. Reply |

Author: Bletchley_Par Date: Wed 27th May 2026. 21:39 If Matty goes to St.Johnstone it is kinda similar to the George O`Boyle situation, all be it back then they were coming down and now they are going up. If he is Perth bound, it`s maybe time to stop singing songs about O`Boyle, he should be in our hall of fame not the pantomime villain. ![]() Reply |

We are not getting 200 grand for Matty and he will not be playing in the same league for instance. He is signing for St. Johnstone on freedom of contract, for footballing ambition and probably for better money. ![]() Reply |
| 70. Author: dd23 Date: Wed 27th May 2026. 22:04 See if a club has a budget of 200k for a player to cover the transfer fee and his wages, then they can offer an out of contract player 200k in wages. If that player wants a step up when he approaches the end of his contract, he’s not going to renew his contract allowing the club to charge a transfer fee of 100k if it means he’ll only get a salary of 100k. That’s why it’s nearly impossible for a club to keep a player who wants to leave as he’d be severely limiting his earning potential Reply |

| 72. Author: red-star-par Date: Wed 27th May 2026. 23:20 Good luck to him. I always quite liked the kid, could make things happen, and was a good crosser of the ball. When I was looking over the out of contract players though, I was thinking, is he the sort of player that can take us to a higher level and I wasn`t convinced, he`s done okay but he`s a mid table Championship player in my opinion. Obviously, my opinion isn`t worth a jot, compared to Simo`s if he is going to go to the Super J`s. I do feel slightly let down by Matty as well, The Pars have put a lot of time and money into developing him as a player, they have been really patient, helped him through injury, kept faith that he would come good, and when the first offer comes along, he`s off like a shot. While they`re at a club they benefit from top class health and medical care and physical training which often restores them to match fitness which the club doesn`t always benefit from before the player moves on.
