Our offer wouldn’t include premier league football though

Matty has been with us a lot longer than Kieran and Jeremiah, so it could also just be that he feels things are getting a bit stale for him on a personal level.

not the best Technically when in midfield or with his back to goal but his natural fitness and running power are perfect for wingback

"not the best Technically when in midfield or with his back to goal but his natural fitness and running power are perfect for wingback"

Think you`re doing him a disservice there. Arguably as 2 -footed as anyone at the club and scored some absolute pearlers a few years back ( Airdrie, Clyde, Alloa spring to mind) and I`d also argue that he showed a fair bit of technical ability when he controlled the ball on his thigh and rifled a volley in the top corner against Aberdeen.

Not trying to be arsey about it, but I think he`s better in that department than he gets credit for.

I`m quite sad to see Matty leave, but wish him all the best in his future career, I`m sure he`ll do well. Thanks for the memories.

Wouldnt be a huge surprise if they go down as we go up, not really much of a step up, but good luck to him anyway.

He’s got the chance to play Hearts, Hibs, Celtic, Rangers multiple times a season.

That’s a step up for him, and steep learning curve playing against that quality of opposition.

He’s keen to develop and test himself, he’s been with us a while, little more for him to gain with us I think on that front so he goes with my best wishes and I’m confident whoever we bring in will be a suitable replacement.

Wish him all the best, as a club for me not a step up but yes in terms of division.

If he doesn’t want to be here then time to forget him and move on. We need players that want to be at the club.

I said I`d be disappointed if he ended up at SJ and that`s still how I feel. It was said we made him an offer which would have made him one of the highest-paid players at EEP. Presumably it would have made provision for an increase in the event of promotion next year. Didn`t Matty think this was achievable or was it just a case of `a bird in the hand...`?

Good luck to him. Good servant to the club through the years. Filled in across multiple positions when needed

He’s served us well, he’s making the right decision for him, he’ll still have had a nice bump from St Johnstone plus playing Premier League football.

There’s absolutely no guarantee we get promoted next season so from his perspective probably the right time to move as otherwise find himself in the same predicament as now should we not be successful.

Football careers are short.

Folk saying it’s not a step up…of course it is and if he establishes himself as a regular starter he’s playing against much stronger teams week in/out and can only improve. Hes a player that wants to improve and has the desire to play at the top.
Good luck to him and I’ll be looking at St Johnstone results next season.

I suspect he’ll also have received a significant signing on fee, which just might set him up for a few years.

Daily Record are reporting he turned down offers from England to sign with St Johnstone.

I`ve got to admit, I feel the same Wee Eck. Maybe I`m looking at things through black & white-tinted spectacles, but I feel we are a bigger club than St Johnsone, certainly the crowds have been. Last year we had the largest average attendance in the Championship, 5,487 despite a mixed season, while St Johnstone had 4,668. The season before, when they were in the Premiership they only just had about 100 punters more than us per game on average.

Plus, to me, it feels like if I was a player we would be a good option, we ended the season strongly, we have the most successful manager at winning the big trophies currently working in Scottish football, it feels like this might be our year to challenge for promotion. I can see us playing in front of average crowds of 8,000+ when we get to the Premiership. Really feels like a good chance to be at a club that`s going somewhere.

For a fairly average player that the club has stuck by, and could have easily been discarded years ago, much like Paul Allen, I`m really surprised he hasn`t decided to stick around, especially since he claims to be a Pars fan
