What difference does the size of the clubs attendance make for Todd specifically exactly?

He’s also been with us for years, so being disappointed he isn’t ’sticking around’ is incredibly harsh and unwarranted.

The ‘claim to be a Pars fan’ is just a cheap dig that doesn’t really warrant going into detail on.

You can’t really stand by Dunfermline being a bigger club when we haven’t been in the top league since when…2011/12?

Definitely tinted specs on.

I only care about players who want to play for
Dunfermline and Matty Todd no longer wants to.

He wants to play at the highest level possible. If we got promoted I`ve no doubt he`d have stayed with us. As is covered every single year, players have a limited lifespan so need to get what they can while they can.

Jake, St Johnstone isn`t exactly that a big step up.
If he had given us another season he could have
done it with a bigger club with a much bigger support
Dunfermline athletic.

I’ll ask again, why is Dunfermline a bigger club than St Johnstone and why does the support matter when it comes to Todd making a decision on what he wants to do with his career?

Comparing us with St.Johnstone on crowd sizes is where similarities diverge.

We haven`t won a major trophy for 68 years and have been in the lower tiers for nearly 20 seasons.

During that latter period they were in the top league for 10+ consecutive seasons and have just won immediate promotion back.

Also won the League Cup in 2013-14, then the League Cup and Scottish Cup double 2020-21.

They`ve also avoided administration.

Perception is all in the mind of the beholder ?

The laddie said he wanted to test himself at the highest level, so while we’re playing Stenhousemuir and Queens Park next season he’s got the opportunity to be playing against Celtic and Rangers.
To say there’s little difference just sounds like sour grapes.
Good luck to the lad he had to be patient for his opportunity ( there was talk of a loan move last September while he was out of favour) and careers are short so get it while you can.

Unfortunately it isn`t always as cut dried as people want to make out

There was a big clash at the start of season which both parties eventually ironed out to benefit each other

A good offer was made but the issues that were there at the start of the season were still simmering underneath and the decision had already been made up in his head
He was always going to try his best till he left because of his love for the club, but he knew he was going to leave

St Johnstone are poorly supported but they`re stable and they have a better record of playing at the top level than us so it`s clearly a step up. Play in games against Celtic and Hearts or Queens Park and Ayr?

Good luck to him. He has always given of his best for us.
I’ve got my doubts about him stepping up to premier league level, but I’ve been wrong many times.
I think we can replace him with better.

Not bothered by this in the slightest but then again my judgement isn’t clouded by whether a player is a pars fan or not, I just go with what I have seen.

Had a good 2nd half of the season for us but was murder the season before and was never a stand out in a team that consistently struggled at championship level. .

Will be watching with interest to see if he can break into saints first team but for me if we want to continue to improve we need better players in for the key roles in the team.

What`s more relevant - current form or past form, which in his case was affected by a series of injuries? You just can`t hide your prejudices.

VEE, I think it was the Scottish Cup that St Johnstone won in 2014, not the League Cup.

Otherwise I agree with your post - Matty seems to have a two-year deal, probably on a financial package at least as good as what was on offer at DAFC, and for at least one (and possibly both) of those seasons he`ll be playing in the Premiership.

I might agree that Pars SHOULD be a "bigger" club and a more attractive proposition for an ambitious young player, but at this point in Matty`s career we`re not.

It`s 58 years not 68 Veteran ... and Pars are a better prospect than St Johnstone over the next few years in my opinion. Shame that Matty (through his agent) chose Perth, Matty is a genuine Pars fan.

Good luck to him, and it`s clearly his decision, and he`s prepared to make the jump and play in the top flight next season. If he does well, who knows where he ends up!

Any talk of a `fall out` ....well he is a professional football player, the manager is a professional football manager and he makes the decision at the time. Matty clearly got the finger out.

We move on, I think we will recruit well, the manager and his staff will like last season do a really thorough pre season training ( I think this was crucial last season)

I appreciate we need better players to progress but I also believe that we should be developing the players that we already have that can be developed. Matty Todd is a player that can be developed. I am sure he will be a better player next season than he was this season. He seemed to work hard this season, as did Chris Hamilton. Two players we should have done more to keep. I certainly would have prioritised them rather than offer Bene a new contract although I obviously don’t know the terms (but he’s not exactly “a prospect for the future”).

Bear in mind it’s us that’s developed him to get a move into the SPL, and what more would you have expected us to do to try and keep him? It’s been advised we made him a substantial offer, if he doesn’t want to stay you can’t do much about it and whilst would like him to have around I don’t think he’s irreplaceable.

Correct, my bad - League Cup 2020-21, Scottish Cup 2013-14 and 2020-21. Well spotted.

Correct, 58 years, well corrected.

We need to get into the SPL soonest to compare progress - and that will be a challenge.
