He did well for us, really likeable player but we have to move on.
I am excited to see who takes his place in the team but would want to see the likes of Bray step up and stake a claim for a starting spot in the team.

I appreciate we need better players to progress but I also believe that we should be developing the players that we already have that can be developed. Matty Todd is a player that can be developed. I am sure he will be a better player next season than he was this season. He seemed to work hard this season, as did Chris Hamilton. Two players we should have done more to keep. I certainly would have prioritised them rather than offer Bene a new contract although I obviously don’t know the terms (but he’s not exactly “a prospect for the future”).

Also worth noting that the manager preferred to play a centre half in midfield over Chris Hamilton on more than one occasion. League One is a good level for him, and signing for a team that will dominate possession should suit him as well.Sometimes we need to separate sentiment from reality and move on.

Matty Todd had a good second half of the season, but he struggled in the first half. If he wanted higher wages, and that potentially would have taken away from improving key areas such as goalkeeper (especially when we have Kearney to cover at right back) then maybe it just didn’t add up for us to meet his demands.

Fair play to him for moving on, but as a club we need to move on as well.

This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it.

It’s probably best Todd moves and he’s looking for a fresh start somewhere which is understandable.

Bray won’t be the one to step up and replace Todd next season, we need to sign proven players to replace the regulars who will be leaving.

Also find it strange how he’s chose St Johnstone over other teams when in reality there’s a very good chance they could be relegated and is promoted next season.

Like others I`m a bit disappointed that Todd has gone to St Johnstone. I`m also disappointed that we don`t get a fee for him, but them`s the breaks.

He`ll have considered a lot of things before making his decision. going to St Johnstone means he can play at a higher level, but will be able to stay in the same house where he`s probably quite settled (I know nothing of his personal circumstances).

Moving to England means a lot more than just pulling a different shirt on, and maybe he wasn`t up for it. Have you seen the house prices down there?????

lol at wee eck all over thread!

Re the current form vs previous form - your happy to take matty based on current form rather than previous where he was awful last season but when defending McCann you kept going on about his form at the start of the season despite 4 months not scoring or contributing anything, he was just about to come good for years.

A walking contrarian who spends all day trying to score points on .net. How embarrassing.

Are we due a "development " fee or is he too old for that?

Not bothered by this in the slightest but then again my judgement isn’t clouded by whether a player is a pars fan or not, I just go with what I have seen.

Had a good 2nd half of the season for us but was murder the season before and was never a stand out in a team that consistently struggled at championship level. .

Will be watching with interest to see if he can break into saints first team but for me if we want to continue to improve we need better players in for the key roles in the team.

That hardly makes a player though, imagine if psg didnt take a punt on dembele, or liverpool on salah, or mctominay at napoli, or prime example modric at real as after his first season he was voted worst signing, look how that turned out eh

`A walking contrarian who spends all day trying to score points on .net. How embarrassing.`

I wish I could walk and spend all day on the internet at the same time but I`m certainly not embarrassed.

If you must revert to your old obsession with Lewis McCann, he is now with an English League 2 club and has just had his contract extended despite missing the second half of the season with a serious injury.

The fact is, despite yoiur assessment of their ability, both these players have impressed somebody within the professional game sufficiently to give them an opportunity in a League ranked above the Scottish Championship. If you were involved in professional football I don`t think you`d give anybody a chance who had played at a lower level. Guys like Barney Stewart and Josh Cooper would just stagnate.

Todd is an inconsistent performer, which is to be expected for the level we have played at in the last decade.

Now he is 24 and gone up to the big time in this country, it’s a chance for him to either make it, or break it and drop back down. The only way anyone will know is to let him go and see what happens.

Wish him all the best, and do hope St Johnstone keep him as a RB/RWB as think he is better there than in the middle of the park.

This is not sour grapes just a observation I noticed this season! I thought Todd was a decent player who gave his all but there was alot of games his corners were piss poor and his final box in the box was poor. I had no conference in his delivery at all . I genuinely don`t think its a big deal he never signed back on .

Keep ur chin up!

The fact is he was 4th in the `Assists` stats for the season in the Championship with 8. Robbie Fraser had 7 btw.

You could say that about most players in the Championship. What about that old adage - `the table doesn`t lie`?

There are some interesting stats about Pars` players last season in a feature on COWS - `That was the season that was`.

Saints are currently a bigger club than us. He has moved up a league, will be on more money, against better players.

Absolute no brainer for him

Please stop having a dig at Matty. He`s been a loyal servant and he`s more than entitled to sign for whatever club he chooses. He`ll get a nice signing on fee, a pay rise and a chance to play top flight football every week if he performs well. He more than deserves that chance and I wish him all the best.

Hopefully he keeps getting better and who knows, maybe he returns to us in 3 or 4 years time if we get promoted and establish ourselves in the SPL. Either way he`ll always have a place in a lot of our hearts. St Johnstone have been an SPL team for years until last years relegation which they convincingly turned around. They won a cup double not too long ago which is an amazing achievement and have finished in the top 6 more times than us, so enough with the `bigger club snobbery`. It`s childish and unwarranted.

Good luck Matty 👍.
