Iwith the flurry of signings in January I at least hoped we’d have been more pro-active but right now it’s not looking like it

People seem to forget just how poor that winter window turned out to be.

We brought in ten signings according to Transfermarkt (Taylor Clarke, Bray, Young, Mullen, Raymond, Yeboah, Hogarth, Hampson, Stevens, Oakley-Boothe). Of those, Bray went back on loan, Mullen and Tash were retained, and the rest? Honestly, barely laid a glove in terms of improving us. You could argue a couple showed glimpses, but that’s not enough when you’re trying to change the trajectory of your season.

The January window reeked of desperation. Throwing darts and hoping one hits. Quantity over quality. It was panic buying, plain and simple.

So for fans to now be demanding signings early in pre season is baffling. You’d think we would’ve learned the lesson that panic buying at our level doesn`t work. It’s not about getting bodies in for the sake of it, it’s about getting it right. Do the due diligence. Proper scouting. Players who actually improve the starting XI, not just fill a squad slot and sit on the bench or fade into obscurity.

Yes, we clearly need players. But I`d much rather wait a couple extra weeks and sign lads who make a difference, than rush out and end up with another Hampson or Taylor Clarke. Trust the process, and if we’re still in this position come mid July? Fair enough, raise the concerns. But right now, let’s give them the time to do it properly.

Recruitment gets results. Panic signings rerely does.

c'mon the pars

I do see both sides of the discussions here, whilst I do agree that we obviously want the right players for the way lennon wants us to play, so identifying and getting these guys in are really important. But on the other hand, where I kinda see it, is quite possibly guys in here won`t know how important a preseason actually is, not only for the body but as for a group to gel. So unless the guys we`re looking at are with clubs already doing a preseason then we`re going to be at a disadvantage straight from start of the season to the teams already with a good squad in just now. Hopefully this week brings a couple faces followed by a couple the week after. Still got the buzz about the season starting, hopefully no be let down, please!!

For example Celtic have 10 on loan players whose loan deals are up tomorrow. Just saying.

NL has said before that he`s not a big fan of loan deals but prefers players whose sole commitment is to the club so I wouldn`t expect a big influx of loanees.

Comparisons with the January window aren`t really valid. Most players were under contract then so the tendency was towards loan deals. Now we`re looking to sign players who are probably free to make a commitment to the club but with an eye on their financial situation.

Irrelevant if it was poor or not. We would have been relegated if we hadn’t have done what that.

Also you’re missing the point. I’d try and explain it to you but I can’t be arsed with a big convoluted reply

"It is worth noting that the English contracts usually end at the end of June/start of July."

and they can be signed and announced at any time as Ross County did the other week with a lad from Sunderland adding he will join officially on July 1st.

Signing players early isn’t a sign of panic buying…….Id say thats more a sign of proper scouting and highlighting targets early doors. Now we cant scout players as they haven’t played in 2 months.

I will be gobsmacked, well majorly disappointed is more accurate, if we do not have two new signings modeling the new strips on Friday.

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

Wouldn’t surprise me if they announce signings on Wednesday or Thursday to drive a few more people to the event on Friday

More along the lines of a Liam Smith at Bohemians or Paul McMullan from Derry.

You`ve also got a bunch of Northern European leagues on the go throughout the summer.

Mcmullan apparently going to the wee team.

When I read about the dangers of alcohol, I gave up reading.

He was apparently coming to us 2 years ago - and then had a change of plans at the 11th hour.

I`ve no inside info on this, however, just mentioning players from leagues that have been in action over the last two months.

A page on Twitter has us linked with Thomas Robert.

Sure he is Laurent Robert’s son who was at Airdrie, had trials at Celtic and Rangers
