DoD Law of War Manual:

18.3.2.1 Clearly Illegal Orders to Commit Law of War Violations. The requirement to refuse to comply with orders to commit law of war violations applies to orders to perform conduct that is clearly illegal or orders that the subordinate knows, in fact, are illegal. For example, orders to fire upon the shipwrecked would be clearly illegal.

Pistol Pete has changed his story from "I couldnt see anybody in the water when the second missle was fired." To "What, me? I had already left the room as I was super busy. Here`s the name of the guy who was in charge when i wasn`t there."

I suspect if pressure continues on this that they`ll find some surprising new stuff and chuck the Admiral under the bus.

You mean the US Navy intercepted a dodgy oil tanker that`s been involved in the illegal trade of oil.

If you want to mock the Tangerine man, maybe go with his ridiculous demand to remove "woke" Calibri and move back to Times New Roman. Ironically, a font that a man of his age will find HARDER to read 🤷‍♂️

The term "dodgy" is open to a wide interpretation, jake89.

The 300,000-tonne tanker, Skipper, registered in Guyana, was intercepted by US forces in international waters - specifically, north of Trinidad, pretty much equidistant between the islands of Tobago and Grenada. It was not "off Venezuela" as generally reported. I have read reports that the ship was bound for China or Cuba. The vessel had come from Venezuela and, officially, was bound for Georgetown, Guyana, according to the MarineTraffic site.

When last I looked, seizing ships in international waters was illegal. Well, at least it was when the perpetrators were Somali pirates.

And let`s be clear. The sanctions are US sanctions, not globally-applied UN sanctions. So, strictly speaking, "illegal" is open to interpretation too. Illegal in the US, yes. But open international waters?

Venezuela has the world`s largest supply of oil - and the US wants it. It will stop at nothing to get it. We all know this has zilch to do with "Narco Terrorism".

For years, in addition to the sanctions, the US has shut off Venezuela`s access to its own money overseas. That`s the primary reason the Maduro government struggles economically. Recently, the US forces have closed down Venezuelan airspace. Now, it appears they plan to shut off its ports that trade with the world outside. Death by a thousand cuts, so Maduro can be toppled to allow the installation of a puppet leader who will privatise everything to US buyers.

A fair swap? Sell off your country`s most valuable assets for a song, and get yourself a Nobel Prize, which, of course, is now virtually worthless in prestige terms.

If America does begin a special military operation then we can only hope that Maduro quicky steps down and concedes to whatever demands Trump might make......

TOWK, why should Venezuela concede to Trump`s demands? Granted, it will take a miracle for President Maduro to survive this, but is this how you want the world to be run? A world where narcissistic American presidents and the CIA get everything they want, no matter the cost?

As usual, TOWK, you are on the wrong side of history. You like to be the guy in the corner who always backs the bully. Perhaps you see Netanyahu and Trump as heroes?

Hopefully, given time, events will prove you wrong.

Goodness Oz, your views seem so inconsistent.

I didnt read TOWKS view as saying it was the correct thing to do, but it was the sensible thing to do.

Ipswich, actually Oz`s opinions ar very consistent as only yesterday Putin reaffirmed Russia`s backing of President Maduro.
It would be the sensible thing to do but it would certainly stick in my craw that Trump can just throw American weight around and get whatever it wants regardless of how corrupt the Maduro regime is. I think the signs are though is that sooner or later Maduro will take one of the offers of safe haven being offered from South American nations. A Zelenski he isn`t.
Also this isn`t going to be an Irag or Afghanistan. Even if the Americans were to have a military presence in Venezuela there won`t be a insurgency against them or certainly not one based on religion or ideology.

The inconsistency i was referring to was that Ukraine should concede but Venezuela should not.

I agree that it is sensible from a personal perspective for Maduro to find safety somewhere else, and it wouldnt surprise me if some Venezuelans might welcome US involvement if it lifts GDP per capita.

Oh I know Ipswich. Oz`s entire schtick is to repeat Kremlin propaganda. Russia invading Ukraine and trying to impose a puppet government, understandable and right. USA taking military action against Venezuela to do the same, bad and unjust.

And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

This is quite interesting

Also, it is interesting to see the correlation between the increased oil levels and the US economy going gangbusters after the financial crisis while we have been struggling here.

TOWK, as usual, you are factually wrong. Rewind to 2014, and it`s the CIA/America that imposes a puppet government on Ukraine. Not satisfied with that, they encourage Ukraine to abandon its neutrality and seek NATO membership. A step that was clearly too far for Putin.

Quite rightly, Putin intervened. Given the existential threat this move represented to his country, any responsible leader would have done the same.

Putin is seeking a return to the status quo, with his borders secure. He has repeatedly stated that he has no ambitions to move west into Europe. Why would he? Russia is already more than large enough.

I am no Kremlin spokesman. All I am doing is reflecting the views of those who listen to what he says, rather than blasting out the rhetoric of Western governments and media.

His views are not the ramblings of a madman—he conducts incredibly open and detailed press conferences, and has many cabinet meetings televised live. He demonstrates an acute knowledge and understanding of his nation`s history. Embarrassingly, none of his political peers in the West can match him intellectually. That is not to say that he is an angel, but no political leader is. They have to be ruthless to succeed.

Comparing what he has done in Ukraine with what Trump is doing in Venezuela is utterly ridiculous. The situation with the US and Venezuela could not be more different.

Trump won`t stop at Venezuela. He has plans for Colombia, too.
