| 421. Author: The One Who Knocks Date: Sat 13th Dec 2025. 07:45 He started a three day special military operation that is now into it`s fourth year. He totally misread and underestimated the mood of the Ukrainian people not to be subjugated. Repeatedly saying he has no intentions to move west into Europe when days before he launched his invasion of conquest into Ukraine he stated that he wasn`t going to do that either undermines any reassurance he now gives. Russia was big enough before 2022 but it still fancied taking the rump of Ukraine, strangely enough the part of Ukraine that has the most minerals and industry. You are though right that you can`t compare the situation in Ukraine to that in Venezuela. Although I don`t agree with what Trump is doing so far America has blew up a few yachts/speed boats and seized a tanker. Meanwhile in Ukraine 400 hundred thousand are now in the ground, triple that number injured and 15 thousand civilians dead with many more severely injured like the poor lad that spoke so eloquently on Brussels the other day. How are civilians being killed? Because hospitals, apartment blocks and houses are frequently bombed and shelled. You know, the sort of thing you were quite rightly appalled at Israel doing in Gaza. And although my eyes were open They just might as well be closed Reply |
| 422. Author: hurricane_jimmy Date: Sat 13th Dec 2025. 07:55 Funny thing there is that Putin seems to forget that Moscow was a swamp at the time Kyiv was a thriving city during the Viking era...and Russia has only been around since the 1500s...so aye, not sure he knows his history that well. Then again, Autocratic regimes have a habit of re-writing history to suit their own objectives! 😂 The correct statement Oz is that you take Russia and China and whatever they say at face value. You also seem to want to ignore the suppression of political opposition in Russia. And also the fact that Putin changed the Russian constitution despite promising not to, simply to stay in power. Do you actually believe that these press conferences are not choreographed? Or that Putin doesn`t know when to adjust when he knows things will be shown in the West? You`d do well to also read about his KGB career. You have also repeatedly avoided the question of why Russia is doing so badly economically compared to the likes of Poland...the answer is corruption. Ukraine has basically humiliated Russia and the US and EU have helped them do this with not even 1% of their GDP. I forget too, but is Ukraine not West of Russia? So Putin has already moved westward... As is the case with these things, it`ll all appear to be fine and then suddenly it`ll come crashing down as it did in Syria. This is what Putin and Xi fear most. China has already hit real problems and is getting old before it gets rich. In about 20 years, the demographics crisis will peak and their super-aging problems will make those of Japan and Korea seem puny. In the meantime we can sit back and watch the CCP and United Russia slowly destroy their countries... Reply |

Author: Dave_1885 Date: Sat 13th Dec 2025. 08:31 “Putin had no intentions of moving West into Europe” Hold on - have Russian jets, warships and submarines not been spotted over/around numerous NATO nations in the last couple of months? Polish air space targeted, British planes/ships deployed to watch subs etc….. If Putin had walked over Ukraine in 3 weeks the Baltic states would have been next. No question. Reply |
| 424. Author: OzPar Date: Sat 13th Dec 2025. 09:08 Just for one moment, TOWK, stop and listen to the man in person, not the `Spitting Image` characterisation of the West. Click on the link below. Could you look at the respect Putin commands? This is not the result of an authoritarian despot. it is an organic belief among most Russians that he has brought Russia back from the precipice it was tottering on in the 1990s. This is the point about Putin that so many of us miss. As for Russia moving west, I meant anywhere west of Ukraine. Of course, after a long and painful war, Russia will take its spoils of victory. If the line stays where it is today, there is a view that not too many people in the occupied territory in Ukraine will be too concerned, for most of them already speak and consider themselves Russian. But all that aside, watch this clip through to the end and tell me honestly what you observe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjidm-gymym Reply |
| 425. Author: jake89 Date: Sat 13th Dec 2025. 09:43 Ozpar, can you explain exactly how Putin is seeking a return of the status quo? Which status quo are you referring to as it certainly isn`t the pre-conflict one. Reply |

| 427. Author: hurricane_jimmy Date: Sat 13th Dec 2025. 13:17 Oz stated on another thread that one of his Children has been working in - I think - Shanghai, so I would hazard a guess that he has some Mainland Chinese in-laws, which is why he buys into a number of these ridiculous narratives. They are literally copy and pasted straight from the likes of CGTN, China Daily, CNA, Xinhua, SCMP etc as well as a number of the Russian outlets such as TASS, RT etc. Having observed these outlets over the last few years quite closely, much of what he posts on Ukraine is suspiciously reminiscent of these outlets, Telegram and the Russian Foreign Ministry. The sad thing is, this really isn`t uncommon: I work in Hong Kong and had a Mainland Chinese boss who tried to tell me that America faked the moon landing and that China proved it. This was despite the fact that China`s Chang`e missions had hi-res cameras that picked up traces of the Apollo landing sites. When I told her that I had a Master Degree in Astrophysics and that she was simply wrong, then suddenly I am the one who "thinks I am god" and I "have a terrible attitude". This is what you call Chinese face culture. And it is as hilarious as it is dangerous and it is much of the reason why you have the "wolf warriors" like Victor Gao who are spouting all this insanity on Western platforms that they ban for their own citizens. For a country that is supposed to be immensely strong, they don`t half act like a bunch of toddlers on the diplomatic stage. Reply |

Here`s an interesting interview that juxtaposes the viewpoint I express here with the viewpoint most of you support regarding Ukraine. On the one side is a Norwegian professor. on the other, a former UK defence minister. You can judge which one is in the pocket of the military-industrial complex. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=app4i-stqqw Reply |

| 434. Author: ipswichpar Date: Sun 14th Dec 2025. 08:53 It`s the SSSR one, innit. Putin and Co are clearly annoyed that those moves were effectively the West moving eastwards, and making it harder for the Russians moving west. And let`s be honest, there is truth in that thinking. Reply |
| 435. Author: hurricane_jimmy Date: Sun 14th Dec 2025. 10:06 Jake89 - you won`t get a logical answer out of Oz because he has obviously been compromised by monetary or familial ties, but the simple fact is that Putin gained respect in Russia because he became top dog by becoming the biggest Oligarch of all.
