Topic: Striker yet

The club have obviously been trying. No point in bringing anyone in for the sake of it. It may be we have to run with the squad we have. It`s not the end of the world.

It`s pretty obvious the reason we haven`t signed a striker is that it`s very difficult to find one who fits the profile we`re looking for in terms of experience, ability, style of play, affordability, willingness to play in the Scottish Championship, etc. The fact that we`ve been linked with Makenzie Kirk suggests we have shown a bit of flexibility in applying these criteria but still no success.

And yet some fans seem to think we should have had this sorted at the start of the transfer window...

The worry is that we have put all our eggs in one basket chasing Kirk, fail, and end up really short up top for yet another 4 months before the next window.

^^^ Dave1885 - I don`t believe for a second that we have put all our eggs in one basket and targeted only a solitary striker 🤔

It would be bitterly disappointing if we don`t bring someone in after all the hype, in saying that though, i still think a lot of folk got carried away with themselves, we were never challenging the top 3 this season.

I totally agree, I think here was a massive overreaction to how much the owners were realistically pump in. In reality the Germans probably saw how big a task it was to juggle fixing the infrastructure and build a squad that can properly challenge near the top of this league. I`d say currently we are almost certainly paying higher wages than last year’s squad. I`d say we are probably a mid table team at the moment.

What’s annoying is we’ve all known for months where the glaring weakness was and yet we’re now at the business end of the window with no alternative when kane misses multiple games. Every man and his dog knows we’re desperate, so we will probably end up paying over the odds for someone who might’ve cost half the price 3 or 4 weeks ago. It’s frustrating but it`s pretty much where we are at the minute.

If it was as easy as that, surely we would have bid the appropriate amount 3 or 4 weeks ago?

That’s my fear also that we’ve tried so hard for Kirk that we won’t have time to get any deals done.

I said months ago for a joke that I’d be raging if we didn’t bring anyone new in and end up resigning Lewis McCann. Yet here we are 1 week left of transfer window and no new striker and McCann is still without a club 🤦🏻‍♂️

I’d re-sign McCann just to see the Berkey meltdown 😉

Depends what the appropriate amount is for both parties, eck. One thing’s for sure the closer we get to the deadline, the more desperate we look and that just means the price keeps going up.

Maybe the selling club or the targeted player get more desperate too and lower their demands. It works both ways.

Mainly because he’s retired to become a golf YouTuber.

Thanks guys, I’ll have a nightmare tonight where it got so bad McCann was given a deal!

Not to worry though, so long as Lennon is manager there is no way McCann will be back.

I’m not just saying this, I would genuinely prefer we stuck with what we have than just bring in any old jobber to plod about and frustrate the life out of us, had enough of that. If the addition isn’t going to enhance the squad then let’s just leave it a few months and see what the option is then, is my view.

I reckon if we can’t get a better option signed before the window shuts we will sign Oli Shaw on deadline day. He’d be a nailed on cert to start ahead of everyone we currently have except Kane (on the rare occasion he is fit).

Is that you reckon out of logical thinking cos that’s what you’d do or have you heard something on the grapevine?

Allegedly, Shaw failed a medical.
