He`s 30 years old so they have an old defence.

It`s not all that long since John Sim was saying Rovers were perilously close to administration in the final months of last season. Things seem very different now as they appear to be doing a lot of transfer business.

I hope he doesn`t cause a `boy who cried wolf` situation. You could see a situation where fans at some point don`t believe in a genuine poverty claim.

Sold a lot of pies to start the season!

30 is not old……even not for a footballer and especially so for a central defender.

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

Rovers will do what they usually do against us, start hard and fast and leave a foot in early to set a markers for some of our younger players who might then go into their shell.

Will be interesting to see how we stand up to a big physical team who won’t sit in and defend.

Nathan Paterson signs for Torino for €1million & 30% sell on. Decent move for him as he’s overdue for pushing on.

Good deal for Torino as well. Everton paid over £11m for him. I hope he does well.

Woltemade off to Juventus on loan for £3.5m
Rumenigge said Newcastle were idiots to pay £69m for him. Looks like he was right 🤷

I`ve got to defend big Nick as I`m a huge fan. He was definitely a panic buy but it wasn`t Nick`s fault that the fee was so large. He started brilliantly at Newcastle, scoring some great goals in a new league as the only fit striker. Then Eddie Howe mucked him about by playing him in midfield where his confidence took a massive hit. He struggled to regain that confidence, and an unfortunate own goal against Sunderland sunk his confidence even lower. A new boss comes in and doesn`t fancy him to fit in to his high pressing style of play.

I feel really sorry for the kid,he was clearly overjoyed to join the club and didn`t want to leave on loan but was forced out the door. Hopefully he does well in a slower league so Newcastle can sell him at not to much of a loss. He`s tremendous with the ball at his feet for such a big guy, although he`s a bit dodgy in the air. I reckon it`s a mistake to get rid of him as he was determined to fight for his place. Newcastle now have very little trial threat up front, and today`s new signing is another bit of risk.

I wish him all the best for the future.

I would imagine most at Newcastle would like to keep Woltemade. He`s scored about 1 in 4 in the premier league which is decent. His height also makes him handy in both boxes. If however he isn`t going to start every week the club might feel they have no choice but to move him because of the new financial rules.

In `Squad Cost Ratio` terms having his wages fully covered by Juventus and bringing in a loan fee is obviously offsetting a huge cost this season.

The transfer window finally closes in Scotland at 5 pm today and it seems there will be a late flurry of activity, certaily amongst Premiership clubs although there may be a knock-on effect farther down the Leagues if that means players become available. Falkirk are expected to announce their 17th (!) signing of the summer later today.

So here we are with League football well under way and the preliminary rounds of European competitions complete before clubs have finalised their squads. Is it really any better than the old arrangements when transfers could happen any time during the season until around March?

I’d love to see us pull a rapid winger out the bag.

Definitely not better for supporters.
I used to love waiting to understand what trialist was being presented to us by Leishman or a big signing on a Friday or Saturday morning would be “thrust” into action on the Saturday afternoon.
Conversely with no signings now outside of windows allowed me to know what I would be watching, or hiding behind my fingers, for the next 5 months under the German owners 🤦‍♂️.

Hearts
Hearts have signed midfielder Leart Kabashi from Grasshoppers Zurich.

The talented 18-year-old came through the ranks at the Swiss club and has already been on the fringes of the first-team with six senior appearances under his belt.

But now he`s heading to Gorgie where he`s signed a four-year contract after the Jambos agreed an undisclosed fee.

Yan Dhanda is expected to move before the window closes. I imagine he will have interest from the Prem and Championship.
